My, you can tell Christmas is coming! Suddenly, as the nights draw closer, the weather grows colder, and people start thinking “bugger – winter again!”, the major device manufacturers start announcing a slurry of new devices (and yes, ’slurry’ is the collective noun for mobile devices). Hot on the heels of Sony Ericsson’s Walkman phones, Motorola’s 3G phones, and Nokia’s own range of N-series and E-series phones comes news of Nokia’s latest: the L’Amour range of fashion-conscious (or should that be self-conscious?) phones.
&Keywords=Nokia&BANNER_STYLE=1&FOOTER_GRADIENT=0)
The range comprises the 7380 (2 megapixels, odd design, shown here), 7370 (1.3 megapixels, less odd design, swivels) and the 7360 (down-market, VGA camera, standard candy-bar, but look, it’s brown!), each of which apparently infuses “…cultural and ethnic influences with luxurious touches of the unexpected.” Nokia also claim the phones contain ”Hints of vintage and craftsmanship” – personally, I prefer my phones to have more than a hint of craftsmanship about them, but then I also perfer them not to be brown!

Nokia 7380

The 7380 is the range-topper, featuring 2 megapixel camera and somewhat unconventional design. Nokia have released phones with this form factor before, and I never liked them then, and I have to say I like it even less in brown. Nokia, though, insist the 7380 is aimed at ‘trend-setting men and women’, so clearly I ain’t no trend-setter (though my brown cords would imply otherwise, I’ll have you know!)
Other features include:
- Keyless dial
- 2-megapixel camera, 4x zoom
- Enhanced Voice Commands
- MP3 player
And a whopping price tag of Euro500 – hey, trend-setting costs, you know!
Nokia 7370

The next phone in the range is the Nokia 7370. Looking much like the old Sony Ericsson S700, it sports similar features: 1.3 megapixel camera and a swivelling form factor. Not quite so trendy, still brown (coffe brown, in this case, plus a ‘warm amber’ colour is on offer, too).
Other features include:
-
1.3 megapixel camera, 8x zoom
-
2-inch QVGA color screen (320 x 240 pixels)
-
Stereo speakers with 3D sound effects
-
Video ring tone
Expect to pick it up for Euro300 or less.
Nokia 7360

And finally, we come to the Nokia 7360, a candybar phone with a VGA camera and brown colour scheme (hmmm, I sense a distinct pattern recurring here!). The phone is the cheapest in the range, coming in at Euro200, and offers the following features:
-
Integrated VGA camera
-
Stereo FM radio
-
MP3 ring tones

Finally, you might want to read Nokia-speak on Nokia’s L’Amour range from their press release:
Continuing to push the boundaries of mobile phone design, Nokia has introduced a collection of three trend-inspired mobile phones, the Nokia 7360, Nokia 7370 and Nokia 7380. Each model in the L’Amour Collection offers a beautiful mix of contrasts - infusing cultural and ethnic influences with luxurious touches of the unexpected. Hints of vintage and craftsmanship, are fused with natural materials, colors and patterns, all carefully crafted and layered with a passion for detail.
“For many consumers, the mobile phone has truly become an extension of their personal style – it is a fashion statement as well as an advanced communications device,” says Alastair Curtis, Vice President of Design at Nokia’s Mobile Phones division. “Every detail of these products, from the nature-inspired graphics to the velvet-lined pouches, has been carefully considered with the style-conscious individual in mind. We are very confident that consumers who appreciate design and attention to detail will fall in love with the L’Amour Collection.”
In the design and development of the L’Amour Collection, Nokia’s Design team looked to materials such as amber, ceramic, turquoise, silk and enamel for inspiration. Craft techniques, such as enamelling and etching, added a creative spark to the graphics, materials, finishes and colors selected for each model in the collection.
Marvellous!
