Sony Ericsson may be about to release a new smartphone - the Sony Ericsson P970 (or maybe P980 - either way, it’s rumoured to be a cut-down P990, so the model number has to be less than 990!). Absolutely no details on its specification yet, but this is what happened with the still-yet-to-be-released Sony Ericsson P990. There was much speculation amongst bloggers, spy shots released, then finally Sony Ericsson came out with a press release with the specs of the upcoming smartphone months before the official launch.

 

Some companies, such as Apple, prefer to hold their products back and lob them onto the unsuspecting world without any prior fanfare, thereby guaranteeing a collective wow by the fanboys and girls.  Personally I prefer the rumours and whispers approach, with a big build up - but only as long as the finished product meets the hype!
