KTF-EV-K100 world's thinnest phone

KTF Technologies have released what they claim is the world's thinnest phone. The KTF EV-K100 is just 7.9mm thin - that's half the thickness of the Motorola RAZR - and weighs just 60g. KTF achieved this through an innovative antenna design, which up until now has been the limiting factor for phone thickness. Now the 8mm barrier has been broken, phones can get thinner still, so the credit-card mobile really could become reality soon.

KTF EV-K100 World's Thinnest Phone

Although the KTF EV-K100 is the world's thinnest mobile phone, it still comes with the type of features we've all come to expect. One megapixel camera, 1.8inch display, MP3 player, and 165MB of memory makes this a phone that competes with phones more than twice its size. Currently destined for Korean markets only (priced $412), if it sells well, KTF will export it across the world. "Technologically, it is not a big deal to change our phone's format from CDMA to global system for mobile communications (GSM) for the vigorous exports,'' said a KTF spokesman.

Even if KTF decide not to export it, however, the current vogue for super-thin phones will see other manufacturers releasing phones of similar thinness. Indeed, there are two clear trends currently running in the design of mobile phones: super-thin fashion phones, which are designed for looks, and which compete directly on size; and 'fat' smartphones, which compete on the number of features that can be squeezed into them. Sort of beauty and the geeks of the mobile phone world!
