Have Virgin released the world’s ugliest mobile phone?

Meet the new Virgin ‘Switch_Back’ mobile phone, designed, if that’s the word, for hardcore-txtrs who just can’t live without a full QWERTY keyboard. If this was a smartphone with all sorts of apps and productivity tools, you could understand its looks. But it’s not – it’s got a VGA camera, ’superphonic’ ringtones, and AOL’s Instant Messenger. Worse, it’s aimed at teens, who won’t use a QWERTY keyboard anyway as they’re so used to txtng, thy hv no use 4 mr thn 5 lttrs! Still being a Virgin Mobile phone, it’s cheap ($150).
Virgin Mobile claim “the new Switch_Back offers much more than good looks and fun features”, which is marketing-speak for “the new Switch_Back clearly has not got good looks and could actually be the world’s ugliest phone, but look at these features!” Which you can do, after the jump!
(This has been an ugly week in mobile phone land – first Robbie Williams, now this!)
Virgin Switch_Back – the world’s ugliest mobile phone

The Virgin Switch_Back is built by Kyocera Wireless, weights just over 4 ounces, and comes with two screens. None of this makes it any more attractive.
Features of the Virgin Switch_Back
- Large hidden QWERTY keypad
- Dual display screens – External 65k color 128 X 128; Internal 65k color 128 X 160 widescreen
- VGA Camera with 32mb memory and five-step digital zoom
- Integrated speakerphone
- Superphonic “real-music” ringtones
- WAP 2.0 Web Browser
- Integrated loop antenna
- Scheduler, calculator, alarm and stopwatch
None of these features make the Switch_Back look any more attractive.
Virgin Mobile have also added two games to the Switch_Back, including “Sexy Poker”, which presumably is designed to cause blindness in furtive adolescent boys so they can’t see how ugly their new mobile phone is!
