Samsung Virtualize your mobile phone screen and keyboard

We reported yesterday on new projector technology from Iljin Technology that would enable your mobile phone's screen to be projected onto a wall. Now Samsung, it seems, have gone one better. They've just received a patent for a Virtual Display, which projects the screen onto a surface and lets you interact with it using an electronic pen.

As mobile phones have become more functional, one of their limitations has always been the display and restricted text input. This is inevitable as the form factor continues to shrink. By making the display and text input virtual, Samsung's new patent effectively decouples the things you need to remain large (screen display and input device) from the thing you want to be small (the device itself). This is another technology that would seem to be inevitable over the coming years as mobile phones become more powerful. Physically use your phone to make a call; use its virtual input and output to use its smartphone features. Obvious!
