Samsung E500 – world’s first non-pink female phone!

Samsung have announced the new Samsung E500 mobile phone at Russia’s SVIAZ Expo Comm trade fair. In another “World’s first” for Samsung, the E500 is the world’s first mobile phone pitched at women that isn’t pink!
More pictures of the Samsung E500 after the jump.
Samsung E500 mobile phone
Ever since Motorola targeted the female market with a pink RAZR, every other handset manufacturer has released a pink version of their existing models, believing that what women really want is a pink phone. Samsung, though, know better, and have opted instead for a design influenced by Botticelli’s “The birth of Venus”, and included a feature called the ‘Mobile Beauty Box’, and a miror. Which apparently is what women really want from a phone!
To be fair, the Samsung E500 doesn’t look half bad, and certainly beats the harsh black design of many of its other models. However, I can’t help but feel the Mobile Beauty Box is just a little gimmicky, as well as, dare I say it, patronizing?
The Mobile Beauty Box feature allows users to take pictures and apply different hair styles to their pictures. Also, users can fuse two different facial images to see the result of the combination.

According to Kitae Lee, president of Samsung’s Telecommunication Network Business, “Samsung recognizes the impact that style and fashion has on our culture today. As part of our strategy to meet specific market needs, we have added this new women phone to reach a highly targeted segment of female market.”
Samsung E500 specification
The specification for the Samsung E500 aren’t too bad, although they’re nothing special:
- Standard EDGE, GPRS Class 10

- Display 1.76” 176×220 262K TFT
- 1.0” 80×64 65K OLED

Still if a Mobile Beauty Box grabs your eye, the Samsung E500 is the one to choose. What do you think, though – is it a worthwhile feature, or just a patronizing gimmick?
