AppleBerry Apple iPhone Blackberry mobile phone

Rumours of Apple's iPhone have been doing the rounds for some time now, and so it comes as no surprise that another rumour has joined the bandwagon, this time claiming that Apple may team up with RIM to produce a so-called "AppleBerry" phone.

According to Peter Misek, an analyst with Canaccord Capital Inc, the deal makes sense, as each company has what the other lacks - RIM wants access to the consumer market and Apple wants in on the wireless data sector, he said.

The result would be a Frankenstein's monster of hype, combining two of the most talked about tech-companies of the moment.

According to the Globe and Mail:

The two might jointly develop a new device: Apple could create a cellphone combining its iPod music device with RIM's wireless technology, or RIM might embed Apple's iTunes music into a future BlackBerry, he speculated.

Senior executives at Intel have recommended that Apple work with RIM, Mr. Misek said in a research note."

“Yeah, it could make sense. Technically it could work,” said Jean-Louis Gassée, a venture capitalist in Silicon Valley who once oversaw Apple's global products division and research and development. But he questioned whether the strong personalities leading the two companies could work together.
