Samsung launches the world’s slimmest range of mobile phones

Samsung have launced what it claims is the world's slimmest range of phones. Called the Ultra Edition, the range comprises the world's slimmest phone (the Samsung X820, or Ultra Edition 6.9 as Samsung are now calling it, reflecting its diminutive 6.9mm width); the world's slimmest clamshell (the Samsung D830, or Ultra Edition 9.9, again because it's only 9.9mm slim); and the world's slimmest 3 megapixel slider (the Samsung D900, or Ultra Edition 12.9). OK, the D900 is a bit tenuous being not the world's slimmest slider, but the world's slimmest slider with a 3 megapixel camera, but it's still impressive.
The Samsung Ultra Edition range is a stunning technological achievement, especially considering these phones don't skimp on features: the X820 and D830 both come with 2 megapixel cameras, MP3 player and TV-Out, whilst the D900 comes with a 3.13 megapixel camera, MP3 player, and MPEG 4 video recording. These mobile phones have been announced previously, but now they're reality, and their complete technical specifications are known, they certainly don't disappoint.
From the press release:
Samsung today unveiled a brand new line-up of slim mobiles at CommunicAsia 2006 that takes 'mobile communications' to a whole new level. The 'Ultra Edition' demonstrates Samsung's vision for the future of mobile communications in terms of technology and design. Also on display is the Ultra Edition 12.9 (D900), the world's slimmest slider with a depth of only 12.9mm and a picture-perfect 3 megapixel camera. Making its debut at CommunicAsia is the Ultra Edition 9.9 (D830), a brand new clamshell handset that is 9.9 mm thin.

With its exceptional sleek and ultra slim design, Samsung's mobile will effortlessly integrate into the user's everyday life, connecting them to the rest of the world."
Samsung's growing collection of 'Ultra Edition' phones is part of the company's aggressive global strategy to take on the leadership position in the mobile phone market . It also illustrates Samsung's sensitivity to consumer needs by delivering smaller and thinner mobiles phones without c ompromising reliability or premium multimedia capabilities.
The SPH-N2000, released in 2001, marked Samsung's first foray into slim mobiles with advanced features. This was the company's first well-received 9.8mm mobile phone. Motivated by its early success, Samsung will continue to create slim mobiles in various form factors and features to meet the needs of discerning customers around the world.
