Sony Ericsson K800i CyberShot phone to hit UK stores next week
Sony Ericsson have reportedly already shipped a tonne of its new Sony Ericsson K800i CyberShot camera phones to UK mobile phone stores in readiness for a full launch next week. The K800i has many people drooling with anticipation largely because of its use of Sony's CyberShot brand: so confident are Sony Ericsson of the K800i's picture-taking abilities, they've added the respected brand to the phone in the same way they did with the Walkman brand for its range of mobile phones.Sony Ericsson K800i
So why is the Sony Ericsson K800i so hotly anticipated? Well, it comes with a 3.2 megapixel camera, for a start, but as every digital camera buff knows, megapixels don't tell the whole story. And Sony Ericsson know this too, which is why they've added a xenon flash, image stabiliser, red-eye reduction and auto-focus to this little beauty.
Better still, the K800i also has a feature called BestPic, which takes a series of 8 shots when you click the button, each separated by a few milliseconds. It takes 4 pics before and 4 after you click the button (though how it knows you're about to click the button, I've no idea!). You can then choose the best picture from the 8 taken, giving your subject time to gurn awkwardly as you say "cheese", and then relax when they think the photo's been taken. Hopefully, one of those 8 pics will actually be good (though not with me, if previous pics are anything to go by!)
The K800i also comes with FM radio, push email, Bluetooth, infrared and an egg whisk (well, why not - phones these days pretty much come with everything else!)
However, there's a blip on Sony Ericsson's radar in the form of Nokia's N80, which will also be launched shortly. Both these phones are next-gen technological behemoths, sporting 3 megapixel cameras that actually take good pictures. But Nokia's N80 also comes with WiFi, UPnP and a host of other amazing video and audio features. Whether the Sony Ericsson K800i CyberShot phone, with its focus being squarely on its picture-taking abilities, is up to the challenge set by Nokia, only time will tell. Bring it on!
