Connect2Car mobile phone car controller Ever wanted to control your car with your mobile phone? James Bond did it once, so why can't you?

That's obviously what Connect2Car thought when they dreamt up the SoftDash and MFC Multi-Function Controller (obviously more thought went into the concept than the name!).

This device lets you control car with your mobile phone or PDA through a bluetooth connection.

Madness? Oh yes! Read on to find out just what you can do with Connect2Car's oddest Bluetooth accessory in the world!

So what kind of things can you control? Well, according to ConnectACar, you can use your mobile phone to:

  • lock and unlock your car
  • switch its headlights on
  • start the engine
  • switch on and off your blue-neon under-car chav-lights
  • control your car's air-ride suspension and hyrdaulics

So, can you actually drive your car with your mobile? According to ConnectACar's FAQ:

"No, that would be extremly dangerous."

But you can read the tachometer on your mobile phone, and even "customize the effects that you want to happen when you hit your shift point and redline settings. You can also customize actions to happen when you hit a certain RPM, e.g. if I hit 5900 rpm, flash my neon underbody kits, or if I hit 6000 rpm, activate the NOS valve."

So, driving the car with your mobile is dangerous, but reading its tachometer on your mobile phone when you're hitting 5900rpm isn't!

Apparently, the range of the Bluetooth connection is 55 feet, which is presumably why you can't actually drive your car with the device. Presumably version 2 will feature GPRS or EDGE for a truly global range, and then you really could drive your ca with your phone, wherever you are. But then you wouldn't actually be in your car, which sort of negates the whole point of having a car, doesn't it?!
