Apple iPhone coming next week?

Yet more rumours of the forthcoming massively-overhyped Apple iPhone are doing the rounds, this time courtesy of AppleInsider, who report on a research note given by American Technology Research analyst Shaw Wu. According to Wu, Apple is believed to be "near completion" of the iPhone, which could apparently be announced as early as next week.
The date comes from a digital invite sent out by Apple to various journalists to a special event the company is holding on September 12th, during which it will announce "new iMacs, iPods, iTunes movies and one more thing." Of course, it's the 'one more thing' that's sent the speculation into overdrive.
One thing's for sure, though - the iPhone is definitely coming. Wu claims that "the design will be an iPod nano-like candy bar form factor and come in three colors (we are not certain of the exact colors but we suspect black, white and platinum, similar to Apple's current color scheme of iPods and Macs)."
Furthermore, he projects that even if Apple capture just 1% of the mobile phone market, that'll still net the company over $2 billion a year. With these figures at stake, and with the big mobile manufacturers such as Nokia already launching their own iTunes-equivalent music download stores for their existing handsets, it surely can't be too much longer before the iPhone is finally released onto a hungry public.
And if the amount of blog posts that are generated whenever a new iPhone rumour surfaces (see the chart below) are anything to go by, the public really are hungry!
