Sony Ericsson MBW-100 Bluetooth Watch for mobile phones

There have been Bluetooth watches before, most of which have led me to ask "why?" However, they're now no longer the preserve of small-time gizmo makers with a Build-it-yourself Bluetooth-kit and too much time on their hands, as Sony Ericsson have joined the frey with their new Sony Ericsson MBW-100 Bluetooth Watch.

More details of the Sony Ericsson MBW-100 Bluetooth Watch after the jump.

Like all other Bluetooth watches, the imaginitively-titled MBW-100 lets you see who's calling and lets you reject the call should you wish. This clearly helps you avoid the technical difficulties of looking at your phone to see who's calling, for those who find taking a phone out of a pocket too difficult.

On the slightly-less cynical side, though, the MBW-100 does let you control the muscic features of your mobile phone. This being a Sony Ericsson Bluetooth watch, this feature might actually be of some use given the great musical abilities of its Walkman range of phones.

That said, I'm not sure who this device is aimed at. Business types might be interested in seeing who's calling with a glance of a watch, to avoid disrupting an important meeting (though personally I'll do anything to get out of a meeting! And a friend of mine used to take an old tooth with him into particularly tedious meetings, and present it half way through with feigned pain as the perfect excuse to leave abruptly!). But I can't see them being that interested in controlling music remotely.

Converesely, ordinary users might be interested in controlling music, but being able to see who's calling on your watch smacks to me of a gadget for a gadget's sake.

Mind you, my watch does have a compass, thermometer, altimeter and barometer on it, none of which I use, so who am I to talk?!

Created in conjunction with Fossil, the Sony Ericsson MBW-100 Bluetooth Watch will be available in Q4 2006, priced EUR300 (Ouch!)
