Samsung are on a roll at the moment, releasing new phones by the bucket-load, and showing off world-leading mobile phone technologies at the same time. After announcing they were demonstrating their latest 4G technologies last week, it seems that all the demos they promised actually worked.

Using a specially-designed 4G bus, Samsung showed off 4G technology that provided 32 high-definition channel broadcasts, Internet access and video telephony at the same time. The bus represented the mobile phone of the future – it includes all the hardware, software, protocols and antennae needed for 4G data transmission, just not quite to the same scale mobile phone users expect!

Samsung are to demonstrate 4G mobile technology at the annual Samsung 4G Forum in Jeju Island, Korea. Star of the show will be Samsung’s demo of the data transfer rates that can be reached with 4G technology. When travelling at 60km/h, speeds can reach 100Mbps; when stationery, 3.5Gbps is possible.

4G technology won’t be available for some time yet, and of course, these speeds should be taken with an air of caution – ridiculous speeds were also promised for 3G before reality landed as heavy as the sigh of the indebted mobile operators who bought into it. Still, even with speeds at a fraction of 3.5Gbps, we’re still looking at some seriously fast data rates coming our way. Let’s just hope they don’t cost the earth!
