LG camera phones take fight to Sony Ericsson’s Cybershots
LG's camera phones are set to get a lot more sophisticated with the announcement that they've partnered with Germany's Schneider-Kreuznach to include the German company's world-leading camera lenses in their forthcoming range of camera phones.
With Sony Ericsson mobile phones using Sony's CyberShot technology and Nokia's N-series using Carl Zeiss lenses, LG had to do something to improve the quality of the photos its cameraphones are capable of producing.
LG's latest camera phone, the LG KG920, features a 5 megapixel camera, and so is a techically advanced mobile phone. However, megapixels aren't everything, and the quality of its pics fall some way short of the lesser-megapxielled Nokia and Sony Ericsson equivalent.
With the new deal with Schneider-Kreuznach, LG hope to plug the gap in qualilty, taking the camera phone fight direct to Sony Ericsson and Nokia.
The first LG mobile phone to benefit from this new partnership is the upcoming LG Shine, which will come equipped with a certified Schneider-Kreuznac lens.
Skott Ahn, Executive Vice President of LG Electronics Mobile Handset R&D Center, said "Today’s mobile phone consumer demands high-quality camera functions as part of a handset’s multimedia features. With Schneider-Kreuznach’s technical expertise, LG will introduce more premier handset models, bolstering LG’s position in the high-end mobile phone market.”
Schneider-Kreuznach CEO, Dr. Josef Staub, claims that “With our support, LG will be able to provide the most advanced camera phones to its multimedia-conscious consumers.”
The deal will certainly see LG moving in a new direction, focusing on the quality of its phones' gizmos rather than raw specs. An interesting fight seems to be brewing in the camera phone arena - bring it on!
