Official: No Apple iPhone

Well here's a piece of news that was entirely unexpected. Gizmodo, who'd set rumours ablaze last week by suggesting that the iPhone would be announced today, have proved to be right - but it's not the Apple iPhone, it's the Linksys iPhone! Turns out Apple never owned the iPhone trademark all along - Cisco did, and have used it on a new Linksys VoIP phone (the much-less-sexy-sounding Linksys Wireless-G WIP320 Phone), which they've announced, yup - today!
Interestingly, all this was known as far back as October, with a sharp-eyed member of AppleInsider finding a variety of existing iPhone devices listed on Google, and mentioned seeing a Linksys iPhone. Odd that we all missed this, but I guess the hype clouded our view.
Of course, this hasn't killed the Apple iPhone rumours. Apple still have something up their sleeves, but it won't be called the iPhone. Cue the next round of rumours - what will it be called if not the iPhone? The Unofficial Apple Weblog suggest iCall, iTalk, or iChat Mobile, all of which are iPants!
I suggest the Apple Mobile Internet Telecoms Handset. Bit of a mouthful, but the Apple MITH seems more like reality than an Apple iPhone!
