CeBIT 2007: Samsung B&O Bluetooth headset

Samsung have been showing off their latest Bluetooth headset, the Samsung WEP420. Nothing particularly innovative about it, apart from the design, which Samsung gave to Bang & Olufsen (B & O), famed top-end purveyors of Hi-Fi.
As you can see from the pics, though, the design isn’t all that innovative either – after all, what can you do with an earpiece that’s generally meant to be as inconspicuous as possible? B&O’s solution was to concentrate instead on the WEP 420’s docking station, which is huge and, frankly, rather pointless!

When I first saw this pic, I thought the docking station was a B&O speaker, and had visions of it interfacing with the earpiece somehow, letting you stream your music to it from your mobile phone with the earpiece providing the connectivity.

But no. The docking station is simply that – a docking station. Slot the earpiece into it, and the docking station will recharge it for you. And that’s, er, it, really! An over-designed over-priced bit of kit that does nothing particularly special – which just about sums up B&O!
