Samsung E590 - a non-designed designer phone
Samsung have announced the new Samsung E590, designed by Jasper Morrison (who I'm guessing must be famous!). At first glance, the E590 looks like a budget phone, with plain looks that seems to be deliberately undesigned. Maybe that's Morrison's style?
Anyway, upon reading the spec, it seem the E590 isn't a budget phone at all, as it comes with a 3.2 megapixel camera complete with auto-focus and panorama mode.

According to Samsung, the E590 is "designed to touch customer's emotion", but I'm not sure how it's meant to do that, given that its looks are so, well, cold, it leaves me positively emotionless!
Samsung also claim that "...True to Jasper Morrison’s witty sense, the mobile phone provides dual face; one side features phone keypad and LCD screen while the other side is outfitted with dedicated camera functions." Right, so designing a phone that looks like any other phone is all part of a witty style, is it?! Still not convinced!
How well this phone will do will depend on its price. With a decent camera, it's got the features to beat budget competitors, but if it's priced at the mid-range, it's going to struggle against Sony Ericsson's or Nokia's equivalent mid-range phones, both of which offer similarly good cameras, but much better looks (the latest Sony Ericsson phones in particular).
We won't have too long to wait to find out - the Samsung E590 release date is set for June 2007, so any day now!
