Sony Ericsson W910 Walkman phone with Shake control

Sony Ericsson have announced the Sony Ericsson W910 Walkman phone in today’s “Next Big Thing” announcement.
The W910 is the latest Walkman phone from Sony Ericsson, and as you’d expect, offers a few more features than existing models.
The most notable feature, apart from the use of HSDPA and a 1GB Memory Stick as standard, is what Sony Ericsson are calling Shake Control.
This lets you control the music from the W910 just by shaking it. Shake it left, for example, and you move to the next track; shake it right and you move to the previous track.
Give the phone a thorough shake and you mix the tracks up randomly.
We first mentioned this a few weeks back, and thought it was a decidedly useful feature (except while jogging!) – good to see it’s actually made it to the final phone.

As well the Shake control, the W910 also features SensMe, which Sony Ericsson are pitching as a new way of organizing your playlists. SensMe analyzes the tempos of your tracks to assess their mood (upbeat, sombre, middle of the road, etc.), and then search your collection based on the mood you’re currently in.
So if, for example, you’re feeling hyper, let SensMe organize your playlist with fast tracks appearing first (hopefully offering up tech-step DnB and gabber before the painfully dreary ColdPlay can get a look in!).
Sony Ericsson W910 camera
The W910 offers a 2 megapixel camera, which is a bit poor, to be frank, and something you’d expect from Motorola. With Samsung now offering 3.2 megapxiel cameras on even its super-slim ultra-range, you’d have thought Sony Ericsson would have followed suit, and seen that 3.2 is the new 2.0 (as it were!)
Sony Ericsson W910 music player
Of course, taking pictures was never meant to the be the W910’s strong point – it’s the music, stoopid! And naturally it doesn’t disappoint, You get the new Walkman 3.0 software, plus the ability to transfer tracks from your PC via USB using the new Media Manager. This also lets you convert the tracks into a mobile-friendly format on the PC before transferring them over to your W910.
There’s also a new media browser on the W910, which lets you manage your music and video files simply. With room for over 900 tunes on the 1GB Memory Stick Micro provided, this should come as a useful feature!
Sony Ericsson W910 release date
The Sony Ericsson W910 release date is scheduled for Q4 2007. It’ll be available in either Hearty Red or Noble Black!
