Here's an interesting video from Mateusz Kurowski of what could be the world's most collectible mobile phone (for those of you into such things). It's the Sony Ericsson Z700 in prototype form. Why is it such a collectible phone? Well, despite being built by Sony Ericsson and intended for sale, the company pulled it just before release.
That's right - they built the phone, then canned it, replacing it with the T300 instead. Apparently the Z700 would have been too expensive for its target group.

Samsung have released a video of their new Samsung G600 5 megapixel camera phone. The G600 looks like it'll be a great phone. It's got the familiar cool minimalist looks of a Samsung, and the usual plethora of features that you'd expect from the company.
The G600 is a slim slider phone at just 14mm thin. It has an MP3 player with a good looking user interface, 2.2" TFT screen, Dual Bluetooth 2,0, WAP 2.0, Internet Browsing (complete with one click Google Search) and FM Radio.
More details and videos of the Samsung G600 after the jump.

Not strictly a mobile phone article, but I just saw a TV ad from Orange offering a free laptop to people who sign up for their broadband package in a PC World store in the UK. There's also massive savings on other, higher-specced laptops as well as the free offer.
This is a great offer for students who will be packing their bags to go to Uni in a few months' time (don't remind me, I have to teach the buggers!). Sign up for broadband at your parents' address, get your dad to pay for it, then go to Uni with your free laptop, safe in the knowledge that you've got guaranteed broadband when you go home for the hols.
You can check out Orange's offer at PCWorld's site (and look, it's not even an affiliate link...really, I'm too kind!)

Having announced that 270,000 iPhones were sold during its first 30 hours on sale, Apple have also announced when it will becoming to Europe. They aim to get it over her by Quarter 4 2007, which Engadget take to mean September 30th.
Although not specifying exactly which countries it will be launched in initially, Apple did state the "major" countries will get it by this date, with the rest following in early 2008. In the mobile phone world, the "major" countries of Europe are the UK, Germany and France, which are the biggest markets.
So, only two months to go before we get our hands on one. It'll be interesting to see the thing in the flesh, finally.

No sooner has Samsung sprung the Samsung G600 on us, than leaked pictures turn up of the forthcoming Samsung G800.
The new G800 seems to be the G600's bigger brother.
Although both cameras feature a 5 megapixel camera, the G800 adds 3G (and possibly HSDPA) connectivity, and looks set to take on the Sony Ericsson K850i in the race to be the best camera phone, as it also features a xenon flash, auto-focus and 3.5x optical zoom.

These are leaked pictures of the new Sony Ericsson P3i smartphone. There's no details yet, other than the new P3i will be the big brother of the P1i that's just been released, and will feature a touchscreen. You can also bet it'll have Wi-Fi, 3G, possibly HSDPA, and should have a 3 megapixel camera.
You can also see that the P3i comes with the same dual-key rocking keyboard design as the P1i, which is a design I'm still not convinced about.
That said, the P3i does look stunning, and as it looks set to be Sony Ericsson's new flagship smartphone, it should come fully tricked out with a whole host of features. Don't expect it anytime soon, though, as the company has only just released the P1i, and so they'll be focusing on that for a while.

Motorola have announced an agreement with Microvision to develop pico projector display solutions for its future mobile phones.
Microvision's PicoP technology is an ultra-miniature laser based display engine that can project a mobile phone's display onto a wall or even a curved surface at WVGA resolutions (854 x 480 color pixels). Projector technology such as this has been around for a few years now in one prototype form or another, but Motorola is the first mobile phone manufacturer to commit to the new technology.

Now that the iPhone has at last been launched, its success can be judged from its sales figures - and it's not all good news. Despite the huge queues that developed in the rush to be the first with Apple's new uber-phone, demand for the device has tailed off significantly since the hype died down.
According to figures from AT&T (currently the iPhone's only carrier), 146,000 connections were made to new iPhone devices over the weekend that it was sold, which can be extrapolated to approximately 200,000 iPhones sold in its first weekend (not everyone who bought one could connect to the network, hence the discrepancy in the figures).
Although these seem like impressive numbers, analysts were expecting the iPhone to sell over 500,000 units in the same period. And there's more bad news on the horizon...

Samsung are working on the new Samsung P520 touchscreen mobile phone. No prizes for guessing which other phone, er, influenced its design, and of course, it comes with a touschscreen. Being a Samsung, it's also super-slim as well, but despite reports of the P520 being Samsung's iPhone killer, if you looks at its specs, it's actually more of an iPhone clone - and that's not good news...
