LG have had considerable success with their designer LG Prada phone, and now the iPhone's been released, they look set to improve on the features to turn version 2 into a serious competitor.
The iPhone, if you recall, has only a 2 megapixel camera and no 3G. Although the existing LG Prada phone has similar specs, the new version that LG are allegedly working on will come with a 5 megapixel camera with Xenon flash, and HSDPA - that's 3.6Mbps, which blows the iPhone's EDGE connection out of the water.
Add to that the 3" touchscreen that makes the existing LG Prada such a close rival to the iPhone, plus MP3 player and radio, and you have one serious designer phone that looks set to take on the iPhone and maybe even win.

The M500 mobile phone watch was first announced a few months' ago, and it looked like it could finally be the phone-on-a-watch that gadget lovers everywhere have lusted after since they were ten years old.
Whereas other phone watches either look like huge mobile phones attached to a strap, or are simple Bluetooth proxies with no internal GSM radio (like Sony Ericsson's range), the M500 actually features full mobile phone functionality into a watch that's actually, well, of watch-sized proportions.
But how good is it really? Check out the M500 video after the jump to see for yourself!

Xiao Jinpeng, a 22 year-old Chinese man, has been killed by his Motorola mobile phone, the battery of which apparently exploded while in his chest pocket, causing rib fragments to pierce his heart. Although exploding batteries have been an issue in the past (certainly with laptops), this is the first fatality that's ever been recorded from a mobile phone.
Motorola are currently investigating, but the fact that the phone was being used in a high temperature environment (an iron mill), and the battery may have been either a secondary or after-market battery, may be the more likely cause than any issue with Motorola's phones.
According to TechNewsWorld, Motorola spokesperson Jennifer Erickson said "Motorola's priority is, and always has been, the safety of our customers, and all Motorola products are designed, manufactured and tested to meet or exceed international and local standards for consumer safety and performance,"
"At this time, preliminary evidence suggests that it is highly unlikely that a cell phone caused this accident; however, we are cooperating with the Chinese authorities to determine and investigate the root cause," Erickson added. "Of course, our thoughts and prayers are with the individual's family and friends," she said.

Apple,
iPhone

OK, more iPhone news, but I promise to keep it short! Gizmodo have produced what must be the world's longest iPhone review, compiling thousands of words from hundreds of posts and throwing in their own opinion after using the phone exhaustively for the past week or so.
So if you want to know all about the iPhone (and I do mean all about it - even the name of the companies that make all the semiconductors that power the thing!), go check out their iPhone review now.

Korean Phones

This is the GPlus GP800 mobile phone, which looks, it has to be said, stunning. Featuring a completely mirror-like screen when switched off, the GP800 lights into life when a call comes in or the user touches any of the buttons.
Other companies have made mobile phones with a mirror-like exterior surface before, but none have made their phone's screen look so completely invisible. The mirror-like surface is so perfect, you'd be forgiven for thinking the phone does nothing more than make and receive calls - how could it do any more, there's no screen!
But not a bit of it - the GP800 is actually a well-featured phone, and its looks certainly make it stand out from any other designer phone/

Motorola,
Phones

The new Motorola RAZR Squared has been launched in the South Korean market prior to its global launch. The RAZR squared is Motorola's attempt to keep the momentum of the mighty RAZR going by kitting it out with features that should help it keep pace with its rivals.
Whether they'll achieve this or not is another matter - the RAZR squared might be better than existing RAZRs, but it's still no match from competing phones form the likes of Samsung or Nokia. For example, Motorola are making a big deal of the RAZR's two screens - one normal one within its clamshell, and a smaller one on the outside.
When did you ever see Nokia boasting about its top-end phones having a second screen?!
Anyway, gripes aside, it's a good looking phone, and brings the RAZR closer to 2007's phones.

The Nokia N95 has been around for a few months now, and still remains one of the most feature-packed mobile phones on sale today. But what if you wanted more than a 5 megapixel camera, GPS Sat-Nav, Wi-Fi and HSDPA? What other feature could you squeeze into this amazing phone? How about a laser pointer?...
...Eh?!
No, don't worry, Nokia haven't gone mad - this is an N95 clone phone. Looks like a Nokia N95, but is in fact just a no-name Chinese clone that's called the N95. It has a 2 megapixel camera and not a lot else, so clearly a laser pointer is just what's needed to make it stand out from the myriad other clones that are out there!

Nokia,
Phones

This, apparently, is the Nokia 7500 Prism, which I'd also written about previously as the Nokia 7900. It is, perhaps, the same phone, but given a different number according to the market in which it's sold. These pictures come from Taiwanese site Sogi, so it's clearly being called the Nokia 7500 Prism over there.
Whatever it's called, the Nokia Prism is clearly aimed at the designer market, and is called the Prism due to its, er interesting facial pattern of intersecting diagonal lines.
Well, call it a designer phone if you like, but personally I think the design looks pants! It looks like it's trying to hard, and gives the impression of how "designer" phones used to look before the RAZR showed us all what a real designer phone should look like.

News has reached us of the HTC Omni, a smartphone that's packed full of features, but better still, looks simply glorious. Featuring a clamshell design, the HTC Omni looks super-stylish when closed, but open it up and it looks even more amazing.
Apart from the super-crisp white keyboard, opening it up also reveals a truly huge 4" WVGA display with a resolution of 800x480 pixels.

Some more leaked pictures have emerged of the Sony Ericsson M610i smartphone. The M610i, currently codenamed Lizy, is a smaller cousin of the Sony Ericsson P1i smartphone, and looks set to replace the existing M600i.
Unfortunately, as these pics show, it does look a little, well, bland. Aimed at the business market, it doesn't come with a camera (business don't like those apparently), and comes with the awkward QWERTY keyboard, where each key shares two characters (rock the key left for one character and right for the other).
Allegedly, this keyboard works well, but I've yet to be convinced.
Other features include tri-band GSM, 3G and Wi-Fi.
