Samsung SGH-i570 and Samsung SGH-i620 mobile phones and smartphones
Smasung seem to have hit on a new type of form factor – the phat phone. Both the new Samsung i620 and this, the Samsung SGH-i570 feature a fat form factor that combines the traditional slider with a full (if tiny) QWERTY keyboard.

Both phones are smartphones, and with the aid of the QWERTY keyboard, should be quite capable of email and other office tasks that require a bit of typing.

More details of the Samsung i570 after the jump.

The specs for both phones is as follows:

  • GSM 900/1800/1900, UMTS and HSDPA connectivity
  • QVGA 320×240 screen
  • 2 megapixel camera
  • VGA front camera
  • Wi-FI, Bluetooth connectivity
  • microSD card slot

The only difference between the two is size (the i570 measures 96 × 60 × 16 mm and weighs 123g, compared to 113 x 59 x 11.8 mm, and 95g for the i620) and operating system, with the i570 using Symbian 9.1 OS while the i620 runs on Windows Mobile.

Although not fantastic, these specs aren’t half bad, and should mean that both phones are set to be fully capable smartphones that can hold their own against Blackberries and other businnessy smartphones.

Clearly they’re not aimed at the iPhone for once – there’s no touchscreen, and they both use the QWERTY keyboard layout that Steve Jobs derided in his iPhone launch presentation. Mind you, with the new sliding form factor effectively hiding the QWERTY keyboard away, they’re not exactly proud of the phone’s keyboard – maybe they’re a bit embarrassed?!
