Nokia teaser site promises new phone on August 29th

Nokia has taken a leaf out of Sony Ericsson's book by creating a new teaser site for a new phone that it'll be releasing on August 29th.
The teaser site's not bad, actually, if a bit geeky, but the combination of nearly showing what the phone is without actually telling you anything about it is a perfect bit of marketing. This is one teaser site that's going to go viral in seconds!
So what phone is it then, do we think? Well, current rumours speculate it'll be the Nokia N81 and Nokia N82, which you can read more about after the jump.
The two new Nokias are set to go head to head with Sony Ericsson's finest. The Nokia N81 will be a music phone that will replace the existing Nokia N91 while taking on the best of Sony Ericsson's Walkman line with 8GB of memory, quadband HSDPA connectivity, Wi-Fi and a 3.5mm standard headphone jack.
The Nokia N82, meanwhile, will be a full-on 5 megapixel camera phone complete with Carl Zeiss optics and a Xenon flash. It, too, will come with Wi-Fi, and also GPS to help you navigate to the places you want to take pictures of. Combining GPS with a camera is also useful if you want to record where your picture was taken without actually having to write it down (we humans are so lazy!)
As for the teaser site, you get the following information:
- The first clip mentions recording, capturing and the word "see" implying imaging will be a key feature. Hence, the guess that this is the Nokia N82 we're being teased with.
- The second clip hears a voice saying "accessing information" and shows images of the Web, implying that Web browsing is going to be another key element.
- More interestingly, the third clip focuses on gaming, with the voice saying "single miltiplayer and competition", and a set of playing cards are displayed. Neither the Nokia N81 or the N82 rumours have mentioned anything about gaming, but there's been a lot of buzz recently surrounding Nokia's new N-Gage platform, which they've been planning to introduce into their new phones for some time now. Maybe the Nokia N81 and N82 will be the first such phones to include the new N-Gage platform?
- Finally, the fourth clip focuses on music, which implies the Nokia N81.
After the video ends, there's a timer (below) counting down the seconds to August 29th, when the phones will be revealed in full. There's also a message saying there'll be other teaser videos that will be posted before that date, teasing us even more with juicy speculation!

I love these new mobile phone launches! Sure it creates hype, and OK, much of the hype's not that warranted once the phone is finally revealed, but it creates some great speculation and and a chance for some serious gossiping (not to mention expectation, which can, of course, backfire!)
I blame Apple - Steve Jobs is the master of hyping up a crowd, and after the iPhone's launch, it seems the other mobile manufacturers have cottoned onto the fact that rumours, leaked pictures and a teaser site are the best way of generating free hype for a new phone before it's officially launched.
So thanks, Steve, and thanks too for Sony Ericsson and now Nokia, as these teaser sites are a phone-blogger's dream come true!
