Samsung have announced a breakthrough in micro-fuel cells, and have developed a prototype of a mobile phone powered by their new micro-fuel cell that gets its power from humble water.
The new micro-fuel cell extracts hydrogen from the water and converts it to 3W of energy in order to power the handset.

Nokia have been showing off the S60 Touch, a touch screen user interface for their N Series of mobile phones that will also become part of the S60 User Interface platform. As such, it's not just Nokia who'll benefit from this glorious iPhone-like user interface - it's any other mobile manufacturer who's currently using S60 in their phones (Samsung, for example).
You can see a video of the S60 Touch after the jump.

Bluetooth

Sony Ericsson have released the Sony Ericsson MBS-100 Portable Bluetooth Speaker. The MBS-100 is actually a pretty neat idea. It looks great, and as it runs on batteries and supports Bluetooth streaming, it's completely portable.
As such, you can take it with your wherever you go, and when you want everyone to listen to your tunes, simply pair your phone with the new speaker, press play, and your tunes will be instantly streamed wirelessly through the MBS-100.
Just make sure you don't inadvertently select James Blunt, as playing Blunt in public is a criminal offence!
The iPhone's impact on the mobile phone world is still being felt, as the mobile phone's user interface becomes the star attraction (and not before time!). The latest news comes from Motorola, who've just bought a 50% stake in user interface company UI Holdings BV, the parent company of UIQ Technology AB.
For those not in the know, UIQ technology make mobile phone user interface software, and were wholly owned by Sony Ericsson after being spun off from Symbian. The UIQ user interface can currently be found in the Sony Ericsson P1, W960 Walkman and Motorola Z8.

Nokia has been bullish about its plans for GPS phone recently, having purchased mapping company Navteq and stating that most of its 2008 phones will come with GPS receiver. However, it has a fight on its hands for a share of the highly lucrative location-based advertising market, as both Google, with its forthcoming gPhone, and Microsoft, with its rumoured purchase of Garmin, both look to win in the increasingly competitive mobile navigation market.
New blog FinderMentalism has an in-depth article on the forthcoming battle, and reveals why Google really needs to buy Garmin before Microsoft does if it's to stop Nokia in its tracks.

With Nokia recently buying mapping company Navteq for $8.2 billion and stating that most of its mobile phones next year will come with GPS, it seems that the GPS device market will be the next convergence battleground in the mobile's phone's quest to dominate all consumer electronics.
Of course, the GPS device manufacturers such as Tom tom and Garmin aren't taking this lying down, and there are new rumours that Garmin in particular are looking to develop a new GPS phone to take Nokia on at their own game.
What better time, therefore, to announce a new blog from the MobileMentalism stable. Welcome, then, to FinderMentalism.com, a new blog focusing on GPS devices, Sat-Navs, mapping applications, and the way in which GPS is changing the world in which we live.

Top Ten

Vodafone have announced a list of their top selling mobile phones up to October 5th. Some of them are surprising, particularly when you consider how expensive they are. Others are perhaps less surprising, and are deservedly popular as they're great mobile phones that appeal to a wide consumer audience.
Intriguingly, none are from Motorola.

Japanese Phones

Sharp have unveiled a new smartphone, the somewhat oddly-titled Sharp Advanced/W-Zero3. In fact, the smartphone itself seems a bit odd. Looking a bit like a bad cross between a PDA and standard phone, the Advanced/W-Zero3 looks like a typical candybar phone when closed, and has a slide open QWERTY keyboard that turns it into a complete smartphone.
More details after the jump.

LG,
Phones

Verizon have joined their parent company Vodafone in pitching an alternative mobile phone as their 'iPhone Killer'.
In Vodafone's case, it's the new Samsung Ultra Smart F700, a super smartphone with touchscreen and a suitably huge feature set that makes the iPhone look like the 2004 relic it is beneath its shiny user interface.
Verizon, meanwhile, has chosen the new LG Voyager, which is similar to the Samsung Ultra Smart in that it has both a touchscreen and a proper slide-out QWERTY keyboard.
