Nokia Morph concept mobile phone

Nokia have been showing off the Nokia Morph, their latest concept phone, at the Museum of Modern Art (not entirely sure how a product that will be built in the future can be placed in a museum, but that's another story!).

Like all concept phones, the Nokia Morph is nothing less than sensational. Based on nanotechnology, the new concept phone is completely flexible. You can fold it in two to turn it into a classic clamshell design, wrap it round your wrist as a braclet, or open it out flat to reveal a large tablet with touchscreen and keyboard.

The Nokia Morph was developed jointly by the Nokia Research Centre and the University of Cambridge. Being a concept phone, though, it's not exactly in full production - but that doesn't mean it never will. Nokia are actually working on the materials and technologies underlying this design right now, and foresee a similar device coming into production by 2015.

This is exciting stuff, as it's the first time we've seen a mobile phone manufacturer actively talking about the possibilities offered by nanotechnology, meaning it should find its way into new devices in some form in the coming years ahead. Among the benefits of nanotechnology that Nokia are claiming are stretchable and flexible materials, such as in the Morph, and also self-cleaning surfaces and see-through electronics.
