Nokia N-Gage now live

Those of you longing for a better mobile gaming experience will be pleased to know that Nokia have now made the new N-Gage gaming service live on their web site. Currently only of any use for owners of Nokia N81, N82, and N95 phones, the N-Gage service will be rolled out to N73 and N93 owners in the coming months.
N-Gage, of course, used to be a phone in its own right, but after performing dismally, it was pulled by Nokia. The new N-Gage platform seeks to resurrect the concept of mobile gaming, but on existing phones, rather than on a dedicated gaming phone.
More details of the new N-Gage platform after the jump.
Gizmodo had a sneak peek of N-Gage back in February at the Mobile World Congress event, and described it as like X-Box Live for mobile. You can create your own player profile on your phone, which will store details of your games, scores and your friends. Your profile can then be shared with others, creating a social experience, and you can play online via your phone with other players.
The N-Gage Arena web site gives you the opportunity to download games for free via a nifty try before you buy option. You get to play the game first, and only buy it if you like it.
As far as the games themselves are concerned, Nokia seems to have got it right. With big names in the industry such as EA providing titles for the N-Gage platform, and with 3D mobile graphics chips in the phones, there’s a good combination of quality games and excellent graphics. Although the original N-Gage was a flop, the new N-Gage platform looks like it might be a winner. Kudos to Nokia for sticking with the concept, despite universal derision the first time out.
