Sony Ericsson P5i smartphone codename Paris
While Sony Ericsson are busy teasing us with the specs of their forthcoming XPERIA X1 smartphone, they're also working quietly on another smartphone currently codenamed the Sony Ericsson Paris. The phone will probably be called the P5i when it's launched, and comes with some serious firepower.

For starters, it'll have a touchscreen (which is par for the course these days), together witha 5 megapixel camera, GPS, WayFinder 7.0 software, and a curious weather application as well. From the sounds of it, this will give you a heads-up on what the weather will be doing where you now, by combining your current position with an online weather service.

More details and tonnes of pics of the Sony Ericsson P5i/Paris after the jump.

This could be a killer app for a GPS phone. Well, maybe not a killer app, but certainly a manslaughter app! For years, fancy watches having been trying to provide us with weather predicting gizmos in the guise of digital barometers, and without fail, they're singularly useless! But combining GPS with an online weather service has the potential to provide truly accurate weather predictions for your exact location.

Perfect for barbecues, putting the washing out, or determining whether the temperature will be so low on the way home from a night out in the UK in winter that you'll get hypothermia on your way home, and so maybe you really should wear a dress just a little bit longer than you're average belt (yes, I'm talking to you, girls of the UK - no objection to you wearing very little, but goosepimples really ain't attractive!)
Sony Ericsson P5i on its own
Sorry, bit of a digression there! Anyway, back to the P5i. As well as all the features mentioned above, it'll also come with the latest Opera Mobile 9 browser with intelligent zoom and widgets, and will have the UIQ 3.2 User Interface. It also looks pretty cool, too.

No word yet on a release date, but we'll keep you posted.
