8 megapixel Samsung INNOV8 i8510 – a real N96 killer
Nokia may not have the high ground of mobile phone technology for long, if Samsung has any say in the matter. This rather traditional looking slider phone is the superb new Samsung INNOV8 i8510, an S60 smartphone with features that’ll make the Nokia N95 or N96 blush.
Not content with the 5 megapixels of the Nokia powerhouses, the INNOV8 i8510 features a huge 8 megapixel camera as well as a stunning 2.9″ 16 million colour QVGA screen and a barrel load of multimedia features that sister-site MediaMentalism explores in greater detail.

Nokia E90 Review
Writing a Nokia E90 review is something I’ve been meaning to do for a while now, ever since I first bought one! The Nokia E90 Communicator is Nokia’s flagship smartphone, and with its unique blend of mobile office applications and multimedia wizardry, it perfectly mixes both business and pleasure. Its feature list is long, and includes 3.2 megapixel camera, VGA-quality video recording, GPS, HSDPA, a glorious 800 x 352 screen resolution and proper full screen Web browsing. In addition to its multimedia marvels, you can also read and edit Microsoft Office applications, which, when combined with its full-QWERTY keyboard, makes it the perfect business phone, too.
But a long list of features is all very well. The real question is are they any good? Do they actually work as intended, and can you use the E90 as a laptop replacement? Well, I’ve had an E90 for the past six months, so grab a cup of coffee and read on for my extensive Nokia E90 Communicator review to find out.
Sony Ericsson W595 and W302 celebrate the Walkman phone’s birthday with cheapness
In addition to the Sony Ericsson W902, the company has also announced the Sony Ericsson W595 and W302, two more Walkman phones that collectively have been launched to celebrate the Walkman phone’s third birthday (has it really been three years? They grow up so fast!).
Unlike the W902, though, which Sony Ericsson are touting as a premium handset (even though it’s just a mid-range one!), the W595 and W302 are designed for more sensitive wallets, and so are cheaper and come with fewer features.
More details after the jump.
Sony Ericsson W902: finally a good-sounding Walkman phone
Sony Ericsson has announced the Sony Ericsson W902, a premium Walkman phone that for once focuses more on sound quality than on features. The W902 comes with sound quality that’s apparently best in class, which you’d rather expect in a phone with a Walkman badge on it. Unfortunately, that’s not always been the case, with most Walkman phone only offering average sound quality, so it’s nice to see a new Walkman phone that can, er, walk the walk, as it were!

Ranking the top five mobile phone manufacturers

More bad news for Motorola as most of the other major mobile phone manufacturers have announced their latest sales figures for the second quarter of 2008. LG, it seems, have had an especially good time eating into Motorola’s US dominance, and having shifted 27.7 million handsets in the second three months of 2008, they’re now officially the third largest mobile phone manufacturer by sales.
Complete rankings, sales and units shifted of the top five mobile phone manufacturers after the jump.
Motorola sues Apple exec for doing something it never did: selling phones
Motorola, whose loss making mobile phone division is being split from the main company in an effort to save it from sinking entirely, is suing former Motorola executive Michael Fenger for allegedly helping Apple to further the success of the iPhone. Fenger is now VP of Apple’s global iPhone sales, and according to Motorola, he allegedly gave Apple corporate secrets from Motorola, secrets which were presumably built up by the company after years of selling mobile phones.
However, as tenuous lawsuits go, this one takes some beating. If the secrets were so sensitive that they helped Apple sell more phones than the competition, why didn’t Motorola actually use them so it too could sell more phones, rather than sit back and watch as its market share and profits took a sickening slide into oblivion?!
If there’s a phone company out there who’s been less clueless than Motorola in selling phones in the past few years, I haven’t seen them! As secrets go, I can’t imagine they’re ones that anyone would be desperate to get their hands on!
Picture the trial, with the prosecution alleging that Fenger actively gave away the secrets of Motorola’s success.
The defence then steps forward, and enquires as to the value these secrets actually brought Motorola in the past 18 months.
“Minus $1.6 billion!” answers the prosecution.
Case dismissed!!

Sony Ericsson C902 Review
Time for a Sony Ericsson C902 camera phone review, I think! The C902 is another Sony Ericsson CyberShot phone, this time destined to take over from its predecessor, the Sony Ericsson K850i. As you’d guess, the C902 is therefore all about taking photos, but it’s got an armoury of other features as well. Not quite as many as a Nokia N-Series phone, but it is extremely well equipped, and much slimmer than the K850i, too.
Better still, the C902 is being pitched as a mid-range phone, so despite its range of high-end features, it won’t break the bank.

Win a Nokia N96 Limited Edition smartphone

Nokia have begun to really push their new Nokia N96, which should be released within the next few weeks. They’ve set up a fantastic promotional site called Face the Task (no, I don’t now why it’s called that either – maybe it’s the last domain name left in the world!), which sort of shows a bit of what the N96 can do, but more importantly, looks seriously cool! You can also enter a competition to win an N96 limited edition before the phone itself hits the streets.
You can see a clip from the Face the Task web site above, but this really is only a teaser – the full site is far more impressive.

Nokia N96 launch imminent
The Nokia N96, Nokia’s latest multimedia smartphone, will be released in just a few weeks’ time. Despite no official announcement from Nokia yet, we have it on good authority that the N96 will be released in August, which is perfect timing for your holiday.
Why for your holiday? Well, not so you can sit on the beach and take calls (though you could if you wanted to, but if you do, you should really think about getting a life!). No, the N96 is a multimedia powerhouse, and is perfect for capturing pictures, video, watching TV, sending your pics and vids directly to Flickr and YouTube – and it’ll even help you navigate your way around foreign cities.
GPhone still alive – Google working on “own branded mobile phone”
After the hype of the iPhone finally died down, the mobile phone fraternity turned its attention last year to another initial: G, or the Google GPhone. Fevered speculation mounted as to what Google could be up to after a number of leaks revealed that Google were definitely up to something in the mobile phone market.
That something soon turned out to be the Google Android platform, which is basically just an open source mobile phone operating system that lets anyone with enough technical know-how build their own mobile phone, and gives developers access to the heart of a mobile phone without being restricted to the features they can access by the phone manufacturer (as is currently the case). After Android, the hype around the GPhone died down considerably, as you can see from the chart from Google Trends (see below, after the jump). The GPhone was dead, it seemed – long live the Android!
However, TechCrunch has a very interesting article suggesting that a GPhone is not dead, and that in fact Google are working hard on it right now. More details after the jump.
