Samsung Style Report mobile phone
Samsung have been showing off their new Samsung Style Report phone at this year’s Korea Electronics Show (KES 2008). The oddly-named Style Report is a dual screen phone with a difference. Rather than having a full-sized internal screen and a smaller external one, the Style Report has two equally sized screens.

Samsung have done this as they’ve recognized that some of a phone’s features work better on an external screen, while others are more suitable for the internal screen, but that both screens should be of equal size to get the most out of these features.

Let me explain. When you’re watching mobile TV, you want a large screen to view the TV programme, but you don’t want the hassle of watching it with the camera flipped open. When you’re on the Tube, for example, you have precisely 1.67mm of space to move around in. You certainly don’t have enough space to open up a clamshell and watch videos, but you do have just enough space to flip out your phone from pocket and watch whatever’s on the outside screen.

Equally, some things, such as Web browsing, need the convenience of keys, and so you’d use those features via the internal screen.

That’s Samsung’s thinking, anyway, and with a 3 megapixel camera, MP3 player, and mobile TV, you have a quite a few features to play with on the screen of your choice.

The downside, though, is that the phone looks rather chubby – like it’s eaten one too many pies and has yet to shed the lard-induced pounds it’s piled on. This would be acceptable if the phone was stuffed to its bloaty sides with amazing features, but it’s not – it’s just a mid-range phone with two screens.

As far as the name Style Report goes, then, there’s limited style, and little to report home on!
