Samsung to launch world’s first 12 megapixel camera phone

If you’re Samsung, then the words credit and crunch seemingly don’t mean all that much. While other mobile phone manufacturers are struggling even to stay afloat (Motorola, for example, just posted a loss of $3.6 billion), Samsung will be showing off no less than 8 new mobile phones at the Mobile World Congress in two weeks’ time – including a top of the range camera phone with 12 megapixels.
More details and pics after the jump.
Obviously, the 12 megapixel camera phone will be Samsung’s star of the show. Details are scarce, though, which is frustrating, but at least we don’t have long to wait. There’s also rumour that Samsung will be upgrading its 8 megapixel Innov8 camera phone so that it sports a nifty 3.5″ zoom lens.
In addition to the 12 megapixel camera phone, news of 8 other Samsung phones that will be on display has also emerged. However, these phones are, without exception, singularly dull, so I’ll just point you in the direction of some brief specs and pics if you fancy a look.
Late in 2008, Samsung said it would be focusing less on high end phones than it had in the past, and if the 8 new phones are anything to go by, it’s being true to its word. I hope these phones are ridiculously cheap, as their features were new in 2007, but look positively ancient today. Let’s hope the 12 megapixel monster phone rumour is true, and that it makes up for the poor showing of these other 8 also-rans.
