Sony Ericsson C903 CyberShot camera phone
Sony Ericsson has been teasing us prior to MWC 2009 next week with official announcements of the two new phones: the Sony Ericsson C903 Cybershot phone and W395 Walkman phone.

Neither phone is particularly innovative, it has to be said. The W395 is a budget music phone with 2 megapixel camera, while the C903 is a mid-range CyberShot phone with 5 megapixel camera and GPS. As such, although inevitably destined for good sales success, they’re not the high-end flagship phones we’re looking forward to at MWC.

More details after the jump.

Sony Ericsson C903

The Sony Ericsson C903 CyberShot phone is a 5 megapixel camera phone complete with GPS and HSPA for fast data transfers. It’s got a range of features that would have seemed impressive back in 2007 when the Nokia N95 first come out, but in 2009, they’re simply OK.

There’s an auto-rotating 2.4″ screen, Sony Ericsson’s photo software for detecting and focusing on faces and smiles, and easy picture and video blogging facilities.

“”The C903 Cyber-shot adds a creative and stylish mobile phone to our mid-range segment.” said Daniel Sandblom Global Business Marketing Manager at Sony Ericsson. “The C903 Cyber-shot furthers Sony Ericsson’s digital camera heritage and makes capturing special images even more memorable.”

Some of the features of the C903 include:

  • Turn your subjects into stars with Smile Shutter™ and face detection
  • Snap really clear, big pictures with auto focus and the five megapixel camera
  • View images on the big screen using TV-Out cable
  • Tag a place-name to your memories or stay on track with aGPS

The Sony Ericsson C903 release date is scheduled for Q2 2009. It looks awful in red, but happily it’ll also be available in Lacquer Black and Techno White versions.

Sony Ericsson W395 Walkman phone

Sony Ericsson W395 Walkman phone
The Sony Ericsson W395 is even less interesting. It’s a budget Walkman phone with a 2 megapixel camera, stereo speakers, and the usual array of Sony Ericsson Walkman software.

The W395’s features include:

  • Powerful built-in stereo speakers with high quality bass
  • Stereo headset to turn your phone into a dedicated music player – be your own DJ
  • True music machine with Walkman™ music player, TrackID™ and PlayNow™
  • TrackID™ – find the tracks you love easily
  • PlayNow™ – download a full range of mobile entertainment
  • Crystal clear 2.0” display – view your photos in all their glory
  • Motion gaming support.

And that’s about it! Neither of these phones is particularly inspiring, but then no phone company is going to release its crown jewels into the public before MWC. Sony Ericsson should have seriously cool phones on display then, as the mobile phone companies compete with each other to steal the show.
