Samsung goes green with the Samsung Blue Earth solar powered phone

Samsung have gone all green – well, blue – on us, with the announcement of the Samsung Blue Earth solar powered phone. Designed to look like a pebble, apparently, with a deep blue hue representative of the Earth’s oceans, the Bue Earth is the first eco-friendly phone that really does come with some strong eco credentials.
The most obvious of these is the solar panel on the back, which apparently draws enough power from the sun to ensure you can make a call at all times (though I challenge the thing to work round about now in the gloomy deep winter of the UK where we haven’t seen the sun since June 23rd!).
That’s not all, though…

The Samsung Blue Earth is made form recycled plastic, contains no harmful substances (unlike most mobile phones, which contain, among other things, nasties such as Brominated Flame Retardants, Beryllium and Phthalate, although that last one sounds made up!), and even comes with a pedometer, so you can see how many trees you’ve saved by walking; or just tap the phone as you drive so you can see how much trees you would have saved had you walked (what can I say, I’m a realist!)
Obviously there aren’t too many features on the Blue Earth, as that’s not the point of the phone, but you do at least get a touchscreen. It’s good looking, though, and if you like your green credentials to be shouted out loud and proud, you can’t find a better phone to do so.
In fact, it strikes me as odd that nobody thought of this sooner.
