Breaking news from the floor of MWC 2009

The news coming out of MWC 2009 at the moment is nuts – so just imagine what it’s like being there?!
Fortunately, our friends at Clove Technologies are there as we speak, and they’ve given us a brief taste of the devices they’ve seen, and the announcements that will be made on Tuesday…
MWC 2009: Video of Windows Mobile 6.5 in all its ugly glory
There’s a lot of news with Windows Mobile today – indeed, the OS was the most talked about at the show so far (although it is still only the first day).
The reason for this was that Microsoft was showing off its brand new update to Windows Mobile, Windows Mobile 6.5. Many bloggers have raved about it across the Web, but having seen videos of it, it doesn’t come close to some of the new Symbian-powered UIs we’ve seen so far today from the likes of LG and Nokia.
As for iPhone, Android and even the Palm Pre – fugeddaboutit!
There was also a plethora of new Windows Mobile phones on show from the likes of HTC and Toshiba, but I’ll talk about those some more on Tuesday, as I’m getting blisters from blogging!
More details and that video of Windows Mobile 6.5 after the jump.
Samsung Omnia HD – the world’s first High Def phone
Samsung have launched a revolutionary phone at MWC 2009 in the shape of the Samsung Omnia HD. As you can probably guess from the title, the OmniaHD is all about High Def – literally, 720p High Def video viewing. You might wonder whether you’d notice the difference on a screen so small, but apparently you can, helped in part by the fact that the screen’s quality is fantastic.
The screen itself is a 3.7″ monster, with AMOLED display technology, 16:9 ratio and a 360 x 640 pixel. It’s this that helps the OmniaHD produce such startlingly good pictures. Well, the screen and also the display chip inside it that can genuinely display HD video.
The OmniaHD will also record at 720p HD as well at 24 frames per second, making it the first mobile phone with HD video recording and playback in the world!
If only that were all, though, but no, Samsung decided to throw pretty much every feature known to man in the OmniaHD – check out the features list after the jump.
MWC 2009: Videos and pictures of the Nokia E75 and E55 Messaging Phones
Nokia have been showing off their Nokia E75 and E55 messaging phones at MWC 2009 this morning. Both phones are business phones that have been designed to take on the Blackberry in the Enterprise market.
MWC 2009: New Nokia 6710 Navigator and 6720 ‘Classic’ (i.e. dull!)
Nokia has announced the new Nokia 6710 Navigator at MWC 2009 today. The 6710 follows on from the 6210 navigator, which was Nokia’s first GPS-based phone to feature a built-in GPS unit and Nokia maps.
The 6710 features the latest Maps software (version 3), which includes satellite and 3D aerial views.
Google G2 to be launched on Vodafone tomorrow
Google is rumoured to be announcing the new G2 Android phone tomorrow at MWC 2009 – except, it won’t be called the G2, it’ll be called the HTC Magic instead.
HTC, if you remember, are the company who make the T-Mobile G1, and the Magic was originally intended to be the T-Mobile G2. However, the Magic will be available on Vodafone, which might imply that T-Mobile has passed over the chance to get it exclusively for themselves perhaps waiting instead for a G3?
In any case, it would explain why the current G1 on T-Mobile has seen a recent price drop.
MWC 2009: Videos and pictures of the LG Arena KM900
LG have announced the LG Arena KM900 at MWC 2009 this morning. The LG Arena is a smart looking touchscreen phone from LG with a great feature-set and what promises to be an intuitive and innovative user interface.
It was the interface that intrigued me the most when newws of the LG Arena first broke last week. The feature-set is as you’d expect from LG – excellent – with a 5 megapixel camera, 3″ touchscreen, Wi-Fi, aGPS, 120 frames-per-second video recording, 40GB of storage, MP3 player, Dolby stereo, DivX playback and FM radio and transmitter being just some of the highlights.
But features don’t tell the whole story – it’s the user interface that makes or breaks a phone these days, and the LG Arena looks like it might have it spot on.
More details after the jump.
MWC 2009: Official details, photos and spec of the Sony Ericsson W995
If the Sony Ericsson W995 has grabbed your attention, you’ll be screaming to see the complete specification and official details of this great new multimedia phone. Well you’re in luck, as we’ve got them here!
As you can see (after the jump), the W995 is a melding of the Walkman and CyberShot brands,as it features full Walkman music-playing features and software, as well as an 8 megapixel camera.
Read on after the jump for the official details of the Sony Ericsson W995.
MWC 2009: Five hands-on videos of the Sony Ericsson Idou
Although Sony Ericsson formally announced the Sony Ericsson W995 at today’s press conference at MWC 2009, the one thing everyone’s been clamouring to see more of is the Sony Ericsson Idou – a phone that still so much in development, the company hasn’t even given it an official name yet.
The excitement should be no surprise, though. Whereas the W995 is just an 8 megapixel CyberShot phone with Walkman MP3 player (and I can’t believe I’m being so dismissive of an 8 megapixel camera phone!), the Idou will be a huge 12.1 megapixel camera phone, complete with Wi-Fi, HSDPA, GPS and a full touchscreen user interface that actually seems to work.
Details are scarce, but Sony Ericsson let some of the assembled journalists have a play with a pre-production version of the Idou. Fortunately for humanity, they recorded their findings on YouTube; and fortunately for you, I compiled five of the best Sony Ericsson Idou videos, which you can see after the jump.
Video: Palm Pre preview

We’re just about to hit the avalanche fo mobile phone press releases from MWC 2009 tomorrow. Making sure they still get a bit of attention before the noise ratio rockets skyward, Palm have released a preview video of the new Palm Pre smartphone.
The Palm is as close to an iPhone in terms of functionality, usability and interface, as it’s possible to get without breaking any patents. Every time I see it, I’m more impressed. Check out the vid and see what you think.
