Samsung S8000 Cubic specs accidentally leaked

Samsung have a new touchscreen phone in the works in the shape fo the Samsung S8000 Cubic. It’s called the Cubic because it comes with a fancy new user interface that features a 3D cube that you slide around to reach different apps on different sides of the cube – similar in operation to the LG Arena.
The S8000 doesn’t look all that different from your average touchscreen phone, but looks can be deceiving, and the specs of the S8000 Cubic, which have just been leaked, show it to be quite a capable smartphone.
More details of the Samsung S8000 Cubic after the jump.
Samsung S8000 cubic specification
Here are the specs of the S8000 in all their glory:
- Quad band GSM/GPRS/EDGE connectivity (850/900/1800/1900 MHz)
- Dual band UMTS connectivity (900/2100 MHz)
- Wi-Fi
- A-GPS
- Bluetooth 2.1
- Media player
- 3.5mm headset jack
- 5MP camera with autofocus
- 2GB of internal memory
- 1,100 mAh battery
- 108.9 x 53.5 x 11.9 mm
Nothing particularly amazing about those. They make for a very competent phone, but nothing that makes you go wow.
What could make you go wow, or at least your friends, is the screen. At 3.1″ it’s not particularly huge for a touchscreen phone, but it’s AMOLED and it supports 480×800 resolution with 16 million colours. In other words, it’s set to be possibly the best looking screen of any phone when it launches later this year.
That said, specs are all very well, but mobile phones are all about the user experience these days, and no more so than with touchscreen phones. Samsung’s TouchWiz UI, already found on the likes of the Omnia, isn’t a patch on the iPhone or Android phones, so unless the new Cubic interface raises Samsung’s game substantially, they might just find themselves slipping further behind the touchscreen phone leaders.
They must be pretty confident about the chances of the Cubic UI, though, as there’ll be two more Cubic-based phones released later this year after the S8000.
