Microsoft use cameraphone images to search the web

Found a new product in a shop that you want to find more info about? If Microsoft’s new research bears fruit, simply take a picture of it with your cameraphone, submit it to Microsoft’s search engine, and all the details you could possibly want will be sent to your mobile phone. Microsoft’s new technology runs pattern matching algorithms on the image you send it to recognize the product. Once recognized, it runs a standard search on MSN, and sends back a list of results on that product.

Pictures of new Sony Ericsson W700 Walkman Phone

Sony Ericsson have announced the release of another new Walkman phone, the Sony Ericsson W700. Designed to supersede last year’s W800i, the W700 is the 8th Walkman phone from Sony Ericsson, and comes in a fetching titanium finish. The release date of the Sony Ericsson W700 is the second quarter of 2006.

The W700 comes with 2 megapixel camera, and can store up to 2GB (or 47 CD’s worth) of tunes using a Memory Stick PRO Duo. It seems to be a very well-specified phone, with a good range of features, each of which will doubtless be up to Sony Ericsson’s very high standard. It’s difficult to see what this phone offers over the old W800i though.

Samsung’s SCH-B600 10 megapixel camera phone not just for Korea

Samsung’s amazing new SCH-B600 10 megapixel camera phone is one of those fantastic Korean phones that normally remains just that: a Korean phone, destined for the super-advanced Korean market only. But according to Lee Ki-tae, the head of Samsung’s telecommunications business, the Samsung SCH-B600 isn’t just a technical masterpiece, it’s also aimed at helping the company gain more market share – and that means Europe.

CEBIT 2006 – Pictures of Samsung SCH-B600 10 megapixel camera phone

Samsung have announced a 10 megapixel camera phone on the opening day of CeBIT 2006. Maybe I should say that again – a 10 megapixel camera phone! That’s more megapixellage than most digital SLR cameras. But that’s not all. Rather than just relying on the number of megapixels to wow the crowd, Samsung also provide this beast of a mobile phone with a 3x optical zoom (not digital, like most camera phones: optical, meaning it actually works without pixellating your image), flash and 1/2000th of a second shutter speed.

This may be a way of Samsung laughing in the face of Sony’s recently announced 3.2 megapixel CyberShot camera phone. Whatever, if mobile TV is meant to be the mobile gadget extra of the year, no-one told the camera phone makers!

New Sony Ericsson K800 – first ever CyberShot cameraphone

Sony Ericsson have announced the Sony Ericsson K800 cameraphone – the first Sony Ericsson mobile phones to come with the respected CyberShot brand.  The K800, and its sibling the Sony Ericsson K790, both feature 3.2 Megapixel digital cameras with Autofocus, Xenon flash and BestPic – Sony Ericsson’s “unique imaging technology that allows you to capture exactly the moment you desire.”

More importantly, the use of Sony’s world-renowned CyberShot brand, which it uses for its digital cameras, sends a clear signal that this phone is firmly at the camera end of the cameraphone spectrum.

Oh, and did I mention mobile blogging…?

Three new Sony Ericsson Cameraphones announced

Sony Ericsson have announced three new cameraphones, in addition to the Sony Ericsson W300i Walkman phone announced earlier.  The three new cameraphones include the Sony Ericsson K510, K310 and Z530.  Each cameraphone is aimed at the bottom end of the market, and are part of Sony Ericsson’s plans to increase its market share by expanding its product range to include low end mobile phones for the first time.

That said, although the features of the new cameraphones aren’t all that hot, they’re still extremely respectable. All are tri-band phones with push email support, and cameras ranging from VGA to 1.3 megapixels.
