Microsoft, Dell and Twitter all working on mobile phones

It’s rumour time again, with a number of rumours we’ve heard before suddenly surfacing again, this time with renewed plausibility (or not, depending on your level of cynicism!)

First up is Microsoft, who are apparently working on their own smartphone according to analysts at Broadpoint AmTech. The aim of the smartphone is to act as a showcase for the forthcoming Windows Mobile 7 and to “…tightly integrate hardware and software”, like Apple’s iPhone or RIM’s BlackBerry.

Broadpoint AmTech speculated that a Microsoft phone would be based on the NVIDIA Tegra chipset that HTC will soon be using, and so will be capable of supporting 3D and HD video.

More likely, with the current smartphone market threatening to crowd out Windows Mobile (Android, the Palm Pre, the iPhone, Symbian, and Blackberry all offer better alternatives to the shoddy design of Windows Mobile 6.x), Microsoft know that soon no-one else will be building a Windows Mobile phone, so they’d better do it themselves to keep the OS alive!

More news on Dell and Twitter after the jump.

Leaked pictures of Samsung Acme i8910

Samsung seems to be leaking like a rusty bucket at the moment, as yet another Samsung mobile is leaked before MWC. This time, it’s the turn of the Samsung Acme i8910, a good looking touchscreen phone that comes paced to the gills with multimedia features.

Unlike the 8 other low end phones that were leaked earlier this week, the Acme i8910 seems to offer some genuine innovation. With the i8910, the Samsung S8300 and rumours of a 12 megapixel camera phone in the works, Samsung looks set for an exciting MWC event after all!

More details and pictures of the Samsung Acme i8910 after the jump.

Leaked pictures of LG Arena KM900

LG are set to release a very iPhone-looking phone in the form of the LG Arena KM900. The LG Arena is obviously a touchscreen phone, but what’s most striking is just how similar its interface (“S-class” apparently, whatever that means!) is to the iPhone’s.

It’s not how a phone’s interface looks, though, it’s how intuitive and responsive it is to use that will determine its success. Obviously this is difficult to assess from a screenshot alone, but we shouldn’t have long to wait for the real thing, as it’s rumoured to be on show at MWC 2009 in a couple of weeks.

We do have some news on the specs on the LG Arena though, after the jump.

Samsung to launch world’s first 12 megapixel camera phone

If you’re Samsung, then the words credit and crunch seemingly don’t mean all that much. While other mobile phone manufacturers are struggling even to stay afloat (Motorola, for example, just posted a loss of $3.6 billion), Samsung will be showing off no less than 8 new mobile phones at the Mobile World Congress in two weeks’ time – including a top of the range camera phone with 12 megapixels.

More details and pics after the jump.

Leaked pictures of the Nokia E75

Nokia are rumoured to be launching the new Nokia E75 at this year’s Mobile World Congress next month. Luckily we don’t have to wait long, as we have a few leaked pictures of the E75 now. The E75 is a new business phone from Nokia that takes its cue from the E90. Just like the E90, it features a slide out QWERTY keyboard, as well as a 2.4 inch QVGA screen, HSDPA, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and a 3.2 megapixel camera.

In fact, apart from GPS, it’s got exactly the same features as the E90, but with a smaller screen.

Three new Samsung phones leaked

Details of three new Samsung phones have been leaked. The three phones include two smartphones (the Samsung Louve and Samsung Pivot) and a “tough phone” (the Samsung B2100), and will apparently be shown off at the Mobile World Congress event in Barcelona next month.

More details after the jump.

Samsung S8300 camera phone points to new trend in mobile phones

Almost missed this one! Just before the New Year, leaked pictures emerged of the Samsung S8300, a new camera phone from Samsung that looks set to take over over where the U900 left off. The S8300 comes with an 8 megapixel camera, and includes GPS, FM radio, a gorgeous 2.8″ 16 million colour AMOLED screen and 7.2 Mbps HSDPA.

That’s a great spec, but it could be the start of a new trend in mobile phones throughout 2009…

Leaked pics of 3 new Android phones

HTC had the unfortunate mishap the other day of having their entire 2009 line-up of phones leaked for the whole world to see. Among these gems were a number of new Android phones that acted as little teasers for what’s to come in the months ahead.

One of the phones is rumoured to be the new T-MobileG2, the second Android phone for the mobile operator that should be an improvement over the already well-received G1. Unfortunately, although we have pics, we have no specs.

There were two other Android phones in the range as well, though.

Leaked pictures of Lenovo Android Phone

Seems everyone and his dog is working on a Google Android handset at the moment! The latest news is of a new Android phone being developed by Chinese laptop and PC manufacturer Lenovo.

As you can see from the pic, it certainly looks more like a phone than a Photoshop fake, so Lenovo are clearly working on something.

Leaked pictures of new Nokia touchscreen interface

Where would we be without leaked pictures?! This time, we have some leaked pics from none other than Nokia themselves, seemingly showing a new touchscreen user interface for an as yet unnamed mobile phone. The pictures come from a slide presented at Nokia’s Capital Markets Day 2008, so as it comes from the company itself, the pic itself is genuine. Quite whether the phone it depicts is real or just a Photoshop teaser is another matter, though.

If nothing else, though, it shows the direction Nokia are working towards. Full touchscreen phone, context and presence, integrated services, multiple homescreens. Seems that direction has “iPhone” written on it in super-huge letters!
