Leaked pictures of the Sony Ericsson W850i

This is the new Sony Ericsson W850i, which, if rumours are to be believed, is simply a Sony Ericsson K800 rebadged as a walkman phone. Following Motorola’s lead, Sony Ericsson have also given the W850i a paint-job, painting the mobile phone in the characteristic Walkman white.

Apple iPhone video stirs the fanboys

Apple iPhone hype continues unabated, but this time it’s the fanboys doing the hyping. Christopher and Gregory DeSantis have made their very own Apple iPhone promo video (beats a be-Photoshopped mock-up I guess!), showing what they believe the new phone could look like.

More pictures, plus the video of the fanboys’ Apple iPhone after the jump.

Leaked Pictures of the Nokia N83

These are pictures of the forthcoming Nokia N83, not announced yet by Nokia, but sneakily taken by the guys at Mobiholics. Not much to look at at the moment, but wait till you see its rumoured feature-spec.

Vodafone in takeover rumour

Rumours are currently circulating that Vodafone may be the target of an audacious takeover bid from a consortium of telcos and private equity firms, including Verizon from the US, and Spain’s Telefonica. The rumoured takeover would see Vodafone being bought for 160p per share, valuing the company at £96 billion ($167 billion).

Mobile iPod instead of iPhone?

The much-rumoured Apple iPhone may never be developed as a distinct device, but may instead simply emerge through new features that are incorporated into Apple’s iPod.  According to UK gadgets mag Stuff, Apple will shortly be releasing an iPod with integrated Bluetooth connectivity.  This will certainly help users transfer files more easily, but it also sends the iPod down the slippery slope of wireless connectivity.  The steps from a Bluetooth iPod to a WiFi iPod are small, and from there to an iPod with GSM/3G connectivity, equally as small.  In other words, rather than developing the iPhone as a discrete product, Apple may have fooled us all, and may be focusing instead on adding connectivity features (including mobile communication) to the iPod.

Pictures of new Motorola ROKR E3

More pictures have emerged of the new Motorola ROKR E3. Latest in the line of seemingly doomed ROKR phones (the original ROKR E1 was the heavily-criticised iTunes phone, while the ROKR E2 still hasn’t been released yet!), the new ROKR E3 adds 3G support for US and European networks (UMTS 1900 and WCDMA 2100), as well as tri-band GSM, GPRS and EDGE.

Coming soon: DVD-quality camcorder on a mobile phone

Want to know what’s coming soon on your mobile phone? If it has a TI OMAP 3 chip inside it, your new handset will play HD (High Definition) videos both on the handset’s screen and on a HD monitor, and will also offer DVD-quality camcorder capability. All of this has been squeezed onto TI’s new chip, which they’ve designed especially for mobile phones.

No mobile phone features this chip yet, as it’s only just been released, but you can expect to appear in handsets soon, along with other chips offering similar functionality. So if your mobile phone has already made you throw away your digital camera and MP3 player, be prepared to throw out your camcorder too!

iPhone to sell through Helio, and offer VoIP?

Telecoms analyst VisionGain reports that it believes Apple will definitely be releasing an iPhone this year, most probably through new US MVNO Helio. “The odds are extremely good that Apple will launch an iPhone this spring in tandem with Helio’s launch in the US,” says Pam Duffey, telecoms analyst at VisionGain.

This Spring….that gives Apple two months. Can they deliver in two months? My guess is no – Apple will announce the iPhone this spring, but not release it until the autumn. Only a guess of course, but just as good a one as VisionGain’s, I reckon!

Nokia G-Series game phones on their way

Nokia have announced that they will be releasing a range of game phones next year. Not quite as game-specific as the now-dead Nokia N-Gage, but rather a series of S60 smartphones that will use different form factors or focus on different secondary functions (photography, mobile TV, or media playback for example). This confirms Nokia’s previous announcement that although now dead, Nokia N-Gage technology will live on in a new range of phones.
