3GSM: Motorola announce 3 new mobile phones and i-Mode SLVR

Motorola have announced a raft of new mobile phones at this week’s 3GSM conference.  First up is the Motorola W220, a value-priced thin clamshell handset incorporating an integrated FM radio.  Not likely to set the world on fire, but cheap.  Next comes the “ultra thin” Motorola L2 and “ultra sleek” Motorola V195. The L2 is a thin candybar based on the design of the Motorola SLVR, and offers Class 2 Bluetooth wireless communications along with hands free speakerphone, scratch resistant display and 10 MB of user memory space.  The Motorola V195, meanwhile, is a clamshell with Class 1 Bluetooth, and, er, that’s it!

Motorola have also updated their existing SLVR range of phones, by bolting i-Mode on to them.  All the details and loads of pictures of Motorola’s new mobile phones after the jump.

Sony Ericsson release new 4GB W950i Walkman phone

Sony Ericsson have announced the launch of the new W950i Walkman phone with 4GB of onboard storage.  As well as being able to store up to 4,000 songs, the Sony Ericsson W950i features a touch-screen interface, handwriting recognition, a wealth of music software and download capabilities, 10 hours continuous music play time, and runs over 3G or GPRS networks. Better still, the W950i looks visually stunning, following closely the design of the newly announced M600i smartphone. Sony Ericsson have even updated the browser, so you can now browse the web and subscribe to RSS news feeds as well. Perfect for keeping up to date with Mobile Mentalism on your mobile!

Announced at the 3GSM conference allonge with two other new models, I think it’s fair to say Sony Ericsson were holding back on us at CES last month, and have reserved their armoury for Barcelona.

Nokia and Sony Ericsson agree to co-operate on DVB-H mobile TV

Nokia N92 mobile TV mobile phone open
Nokia and Sony Ericsson have announced at 3GSM that they are joining forces to ensure their new mobile TV phones will work with the new DVB-H mobile TV services that will become available throughout 2006.  The announcement centers around Nokia and Sony Ericsson agreeing to use Nokia’s Open Air Interface (OAI), which specifies how mobile TV devices connect with the DVB-H network and the servers of the overall mobile TV service infrastructure.  The OAI acts as an interface to a network’s mobile TV service. If different mobile phones use different interfaces, then mobile phones using one type of interface will not be able to access the mobile TV service of a network that employs a different interface.  By agreeing to use the same standard, all Nokia and Sony Ericsson mobile TV phones will be able to access mobile TV services that use OAI.  Smart.
