Samsung have been showing off their new Samsung Style Report phone at this year's Korea Electronics Show (KES 2008). The oddly-named Style Report is a dual screen phone with a difference. Rather than having a full-sized internal screen and a smaller external one, the Style Report has two equally sized screens.

Samsung have done this as they've recognized that some of a phone's features work better on an external screen, while others are more suitable for the internal screen, but that both screens should be of equal size to get the most out of these features.

Let me explain. When you're watching mobile TV, you want a large screen to view the TV programme, but you don't want the hassle of watching it with the camera flipped open. When you're on the Tube, for example, you have precisely 1.67mm of space to move around in. You certainly don't have enough space to open up a clamshell and watch videos, but you do have just enough space to flip out your phone from pocket and watch whatever's on the outside screen.

Equally, some things, such as Web browsing, need the convenience of keys, and so you'd use those features via the internal screen.

That's Samsung's thinking, anyway, and with a 3 megapixel camera, MP3 player, and mobile TV, you have a quite a few features to play with on the screen of your choice.

The downside, though, is that the phone looks rather chubby - like it's eaten one too many pies and has yet to shed the lard-induced pounds it's piled on. This would be acceptable if the phone was stuffed to its bloaty sides with amazing features, but it's not - it's just a mid-range phone with two screens.

As far as the name Style Report goes, then, there's limited style, and little to report home on!

Samsung have announced the awkwardly-named Samsung Anycall Haptic 2, which is, in many respects, the Samsung Tocco version 2. Featuring a haptic touchscreen (hence the name, I guess!), it features an updated user interface with 50 new widgets.

The user interface is also fully customizable and lets users create their own menu on the desktop - another sign that the iPhone and now Android are having a big impact on the mobile phone market.

As you'd expect from a Samsung phone, it comes fully loaded with features, including a 5 megapixel camera with anti-shake, auto focus and 12 shooting modes, 16GB memory (with the option of adding another 8GB if you have more than 18,000 tunes you want to store!), a big 3.2" screen with 16:9 display, and mobile TV.

Unfortunately, and as you probably guessed from the name, it's only going to be available in Korea, but it at least sheds a bit of light on the direction Samsung's going with its higher-end phones.

When the Tocco does emerge next year, you can expect it to have slightly better features than this (probably an 8 megapixel camera, for example), but my guess is the user interface will remain the same.

Smasung have announced a new camera phone that sports a 5 megapixel camera and a 3x optical zoom. Nothing particularly innovative about that, you might think. The forthcoming Sony Ericsson C905 will be an 8 megapixel camera phone and camera phones with 3x optical zooms have been around for a while now.

However, although optical zoom is far better than digital zoom, it doesn't appear on that many phones. The reason (apart from cost) is size - whenever you zoom out, the lens of your camera moves out of the main body of the phone or camera in which it's situated, and all the gubbins required to do this adds significantly to the device's bulk. This is not what mobile phone manufacturers want, particularly when thin is most definitely in with mobile phones these days. Just take a look at one of Samsung's earlier attempts at a high-end camera phone with super-zooming lens. Not exactly what you'd call slim (or subtle, for that matter!)

So Samsung's latst phone, the Samsung W480, features what it calls an 'inner zoom' feature. Rather than the lens of the phone moving outwards, away from the phone's body, the lens actually remains fixed in place, and the zooming happens internally. By magic. I think!

Obviously, this being a Samsung phone, you get all manner of other technological goodies to play with as well. Read on after the jump for more details.

As well as 3x magical optical zoom, the Samsung W480 also comes with a Xenon high-performance digital camera flash, auto-focus, anti-shake correction, face recognition, red-eye reduction, and other advanced camera features, all of which help you take the perfect shot. You can instantly take photos as well, as the rear of the phone is pretty much a digital camera in its own right. Simply slide back the lens cover and you're instantly in camera mode, and can start taking pics straight away.

You also get 7.2 Mbps HSDPA, WCDMA / GSM global roaming, MP3, Bluetooth, and 8GB external memory support, just for good measure. In short, this is one serious camera phone, and although it's not got the megapixellage of Sony Ericsson's C905 8 megapixel behemoth, it should certainly be capable of taking some great pictures. The only downside is that it's destined only for South Korea...natch!

Samsung have released a new touchscreen phone that seems strangely familiar. The new Samsung AnyCall Haptic is a sleek looking device with a huge 3.2" touchscreen that features a widescreen 16:9 aspect ratio for optimal multimedia viewing. It also features a nifty new user interface as you can see from the pics, but it all looks, well...like an iPhone!

Of course, there are a few extra tweaks added to the mix. The touchscreen, for example, comes with haptic functionality, with the phone vibrating slightly whenever you drag your finger over a button. You also get mobile TV in the form of DMB, as well as bluetooth and an MP3 player, but the camera is only 2 megapixels.

The Samsung haptic, then, is a great looking phone, and is proof, if any were needed, of the influence the iPhone has had on the mobile market. My guess is that soon all phones will have touchscreens, and in a few years' time we'll look back at our current devices and wonder what on earth all the buttons were for!

LG have been showing off their new LG LH2300 smartphone. Part phone, part Internet tablet, the LH2300 comes packed with some serious features, as you'd expect. It's most obvious claim to fame is the huge 3 inch touchscreen, featuring a glorious 800 x 480 pixel widescreen VGA resolution that makes browsing the Web on your mobile seem just as good as it does on your desktop (well, according to LG it does, anyway!)

The LG LH2300 also comes with mobile TV (T-DMB), Bluetooth 2.0 and a 3 megpixel camera complete with face recognition. More intriguingly, it may, or may not, come with one of those fancy projected keyboard jobbies...

I say may or may not, as the picture up top comes from Korean site Cetizen, and my Korean seems to be as good as BabelFish's, which keeps banging on about a sprouting screen and a grass browsing function! The only sense I can get from it is that the the LH2300 is bedspread mobile machinery, and "...the keyboard when about will come out? B possibility is in 22 century B?"

Er...?! Does this mean the phone does come with the projected keyboard, or will do in the 22nd Century? Any Korean speakers shed any light on this?

Regardless of whether the LH2300 does come with built-in projected keyboard, you have to admit the phone itself looks stunning, and with a nice set of features, it should sell well.

Samsung have announced a new phone with an odd name The phone in question is called the Samsung Miniskirt Season 2 (or the even-less intuitive SCH-C225, SPH-C2205, and SPH-C2255), a title that contains not a hint of the gadget it actually refers to. Looking nothing like a mini-skirt, the new Samsung phone is being pitched firmly at women, who apparently like to Talk, Play, Love.

More details and pictures of the Samsung Miniskirt phone (and girls in miniskirts, naturally) after the jump.

Given its role as a fashion phone, you'd expect the Samsung Miniskirt to be short on features, but not a bit of it. Not only does it have all the usual features you'd expect (2 megapixel camera, bluetooth, MP3 player), it also comes with GPS and a rather oddly-named "Smile shot" function, which recognizes a subject's smile when taking pictures of them, and uses as that as the focal point. There's also a haptic touch-pad, just to round off the features.

As you've probably guessed by now, the Samsung Miniskirt is destined for the Korean market only, priced between 400,000 and 500,000 KRW.

LG has announced the new LG LB3300, or, to give it its much fancier name, the LG Rhapsody in Music. Obviously, the clue's in the title, so it shouldn't come as too much of a surprise that LG's latest phone is a music phone, designed to take on the Sony Ericsson Walkman phones.

And if features are anything to go by, it doesn't just take them on, it trounces them into the ground! More pictures and details of the LG Rhapsody in Music phone after the jump.

The LG Rhapsody in Music phone features an iPod like navigation wheel for scrolling through your tunes, as well as 1GB of internal memory (expandable to 4GB) for storing your tunes on. It's much more than just a music phone, though, as it also comes with Bluetooth 2.0, a media player, and mobile TV (DMB standard).

Coming in black or white (with a pink version on its way in early 2008), the LG Rhapsody in Music features similar styling to LG's chocolate range of designer phones, with neat red trim, and a checkerboard effect to the keypad.

In other words, it doesn't just sound good, it looks bloody good as well, and with a huge list of features, it should sell well too.

At the moment, though, it's only available in Korea, where it's priced at 500,000 ON (about 367 Euros), but hopefully they'll release it in other markets in early 2008.

Of course, this being a Samsung phone, that's not all it comes with. As well as AMOLED and mobile TV, you also get HSDPA connectivity, Bluetooth 2.0, a multimedia player, and a camera, although only a 2 megapixel version.

Unfortunately, the Samsung W2400 is only available in Korea, and even there, only in a limited run of 1,000 units. Price is expected to be 500,00 WON (or 367 Euros), should you be in South Korea and interested in buying one.

Best of all, though, is the data transfer rates the SH150 can sustain - a full 7.2Mbps using HSDPA.

Unfortunately, it's only available in Korea at the moment, but then that's probably just as well, as no network outside of Korea could support that kind of speed!

More pics after the jump.
Casio have released their new Casio W53CA Exilim camera phone. Featuring a 5.1 megapixel camera that's based on Casio's well-respected Exilim brand of digital cameras, the W53CA sees Casio take on Sony Ericsson's Cyber Shot brand of camera phones.

Among the features of the the W53CA are auto-focus and image stabilization to prevent blurred pictures when taking snaps of your mates when you've had one too many!

The phone itself is a standard clamshell, and none too pretty at that. In fact, it looks like most other Japanese phones.

Casio is releasing the W53CA in the Korean market at the moment, which gives me a bit of a dilemma: do I file this under "Japanes phones" or "Korean phones"?! Oh what the heck, I'll file it under both!

No news yet on whether they'll be releasing it in Europe or the States.
