Motorola and Kodak working on new 5 megapixel camera-phone

Kodak have announced that they are working on a new 5 megapixel CMOS sensor that will find its way into new Motorola camera-phones at the end of the year.

The new phones will likely be branded Motorola-Kodak phones, and will be designed to enable Motorola to compete on a more equal footing with the more technologically superior phones of its competitors.

Whereas other mobile phone manufacturers such as Nokia and LG have relied on incorporating superior lens technology from Carl Zeiss and Schneider-Kreuznach repsectively, none have been able to match the brand power of Sony Ericsson’s CyberShot phones, which don’t just draw on Sony’s famed CyberShot range of cameras, they also offer superior photo quality to their competitors.

Motorola launches its media monster – the Motorola Z8

This is the new Motorola Z8, the media monster that Motorola CEO Ed Zander mentioned last week during his keynote speech at Software 2007.

And for once, it seems that Motorola has delivered. Rather than simply taking their existing phones and “reinventing” them by basically painting them a different colour, Motorola have finally woken up and pimped the Z8 to extreme levels.

So extreme, in fact, it may actually compete with other manufacturers’ handsets!

How extreme? Well how does mobile TV, HSDPA, 16 million colour screen and 4GB of on-board storage sound? And that’s just for starters!

Motorola at CTIA 2007

Motorola had a disappointing CTIA 2007. They let loose the new MOTOROKR Z6m, a new sliding music phone with 2 megapixel camera and up to 2GB of storage, and the RAZR maxx Ve, which is a 3G RAZR with 2 megapixel camera. Don’t know why they didn’t just call it the RAZR yamr (yet-another-motorola-razr)!

Rumours that Motorola’s manufacturing plants can’t actually build a phone that doesn’t look like a RAZR are unconfirmed (but would explain why company keeps churning out the same old design!).

3GSM 2007: Motorola Q with shiny HSDPA

Motorola also announced two new Motorola Qs at 3GSM – the Motorola Q q9 and Motorola Q gsm. The new Q q9 features HSDPA, offering super-fast download speeds of 3.6Mbps, while the qQ gsm offers quad-band GSM and EDGE connectivity. Both new Motorola Qs are based on Windows Mobile 6.0, but on the plus side, they also offer up to 2GB of onboard storage via a microSD card, and come with a new 2 megapixel camera and video recorder capable of 30fps at VGA resolution.

3GSM 2007: Motorola RIZR Z8 high speed ugly-phone

Motorola haven’t been quiet at 3GSM, either. This is the, er, unusual looking Motorola MOTORIZR Z8, with built-in HSDPA, video playback at 30 fps, user memory of up to 4GB, and a whopping 15.3mm thick in an unusual banana-style form factor.

This is the first banana phone I’ve seen since Nokia launched their banana phone back in 1997. I think there’s a reason they never caught on. Sure, your face isn’t flat, but your pockets sure as hell are (or should be!)

CES 2007: Motorola MOTORIZR Z6 – Zzzzzzz!

Motorola have announced the new Motorola MOTORIZR Z6 at CES 2007, a new RAZR-esque phone that’s based on a slider form factor rather than the original RAZR’s clamshell design.

The RIZR Z6 features the RAZR’s legendary good looks, and is heavy on the music features.

It offers full support for Microsoft’s Media DRM, Windows Media Audio (WMA), and Media Transfer Protocol (MTP), which enables Microsoft’s Windows Media Player 11 to automatically recognize the RIZR Z6 for instant syncing of music files between phone and PC. Well, I say more interesting – that’s about as interesting as it gets! It also comes with 2 megapixel camera, MP3 player (obviously!), and Bluetooth with A2DP, but that’s hardly interesting.

According to Motorola, the RIZR Z6 is the “world’s first Linux-Java music phone integrating the full suite of Windows Media technologies” – big whoop!

Motorola were the most-blogged about mobile phone manufacturer at last year’s CES – I’m guessing they won’t be this year!

New Motorola ROKR E6 – Have Motorola got it right this time?

Motorola’s original ROKR was born in a blizzard of hype.

Dubbed the ‘iTunes phone’, it was the first phone to feature Apple’s iTunes service, and helped spawn the new blizzard of iPhone hype we’re currently being swamped with.

Unfortunately for Motorola, the ROKR soon died an ugly death of shame, embarrassment and chronic disillusionment, as it was hobbled by Apple, and could only store 100 tunes.

Motorola tried again with the stillborn ROKR E2 and the E3, but that was pants as well, despite ditching the iTunes service.

Now, Motorola are trying again, with the Motorola ROKR E6, a brand new update on a much ridiculed phone. So have they got it right this time?

Motorola MOTOVIEW – Motorola’s first Mobile TV phone

This is the Motorola MOTOVIEW, Motorola’s first attempt at a mobile TV phone. Coming rather late to the party, the MOTOVIEW is a reasonable looking mobile TV phone with what can only be described as modest features. It supports the satellite-based S-DMB mobile TV standard, but a weak 1.3 megapixel camera, MP3 player, and er, that’s it!

Motorola KRZR Preview

Motorola recently announced its new Motorola KRZR mobile phone, and PhoneDaily have managed to get a sneak preview. The phone itself is pretty unremarkable – actually, it’s very unremarkable – but you can’t deny it looks good. OK, it looks like a RAZR, but it’s still good looking.

First Motorola SCPL announced

Rumours of the Motorola SCPL, Motorola’s RAZR-succesor, first surfaced back in May.

When first announced, Motorola chief Ron Garriques said the SCPL would have five features that would make the phone stand out from its competitors.

Well, now the first incarnation of the Motorola SCPL has been announced, and it’s going to be called the MotoFone.

But before you gasp in amazement, let me just set this in context: the MotoFone was announced at the same time as the KRZR, the RIZR, and the new RAZRs, but because the MotoFone has such limited features, I actually saw it as just another low end phone, and therefore not worth writing about!

So…now we know it’s the first SCPL incarnation, let’s take a proper look at it.
