CES 2007: Nokia shows off the Nokia N93i
Still with Nokia, the company have also announced the Nokia N93i, which is, unsurprisingly, an update of its existing Nokia N93 videophone. The N93i features a few updates, but its chief claim to fame is its smaller size – it’s now just 103mm x 58mm x 25mm in size (as opposed to the original N93’s 118mm x 56mm x 28mm). This was one of the problems with the existing N93, as although its feature-set was fantastic, it created a bulge in your pocket bigger than the proverbial canoe.
It also features a different, RAZR-esque keypad, which some users have complained about, preferring the original N93’s keypad as it was easier to use (can’t please all the people, eh?!), but the new keypad goes some way in reducing the thickness of the N93i.
Leaked pictures of the Nokia N93i
Leaked pictures of the Nokia N93i have emerged. The Nokia N93i is, as its name suggests, an update of Nokia’s existing N93 multimedia computer. The 93 focused on video, and although technologically superb, was seen by some as a bit, well, lardy. However, if rumoured specs are to be believed, the new N93i will still be the same size as its predecessor, which is a shame, as it was this that put some people off from buying it.

Nokia N93 improves your golf swing
Nokia have come up with an interesting gimmick application to help drive sales of their Nokia N93 – an N93 Golf Edition special edition handset, featuring a golf application that can apparently improve your game.
Using the N93’s superb video capabilities, the N93 Golf Edition can apparently capture your golf swing, analyze and improve your game by split screen swing comparison and other advanced analysis tools.
I’m sceptical as to whether this’ll work or not, as it sounds more like marketing rather than a real attempt to use the phone in an innovative way. That said, it’s an innovative marketing approach if nothing else, and I’d love to know if this application works (not because I play golf, just because I’m curious!)

Nokia N93 Preview
The Nokia N93 has been previewed by AllAboutSymbian, who’ve managed to get hold of one of these fantastic handsets before Nokia officially launches it. The Nokia N93 is a superb all-singing all-dancing mobile phone (or ‘multimedia computer’, as Nokia now prefers to call them), coming fully loaded with 3.2 megapixel camera (with 3x optical zoom), MP3 player, superb video camera, TV-Out, WiFi, 3G, GSM, USB, Blutooth, UPnP and TV-Out connectivity, and a superb browser for a mobile phone.

No need to download any software; simply select your image, and click ‘Upload to Flickr’ and you’re done. Harry Potter to be shot on a Nokia N93?
Not content with DVD-like video capture at 30 frames per second, a 3.2 megapixel camera with Carl Zeiss optics and 3x optical zoom with video stabilization, Nokia have also chosen to bundle Adobe’s Premiere Elements 2.0 software with the Nokia N93, letting users edit their videos, burn to DVD, and export to other formats for Web streaming and email. This has presumably caught the attention of Harry Potter director, Gary Oldman, who accepted Nokia’s marketing cash will be producing short films on a Nokia N93 based on the theme ‘open your eyes’. “Harry Potter and the Multimedia Computer” may be some years off, but it can’t be too long before Nokia start producing broadcast quality videophones.
Pictures of new Nokia N93 videophone
Nokia have announced the new Nokia N93 videophone. Last in the new N-Series phones announced today, the Nokia N93 has been expected for some time, ever since leaked photos of it emerged last November.
The N93 is visually stunning, following the design lines of its predecssor, the N92. It offers similar superb camera and video features, as well as excellent connectivity, but naturally improves on its predecessor. The N93 offers a 3.2 megapixel camera with Carl Zeiss lens, 3x optical zoom, and MPEG4 VGA video capturing at 30fps with digital stabilization. It also offers you the ability to post your images and video directly to your blog, or view them on TV. The N93 offers tri-band GSM, 3G, WLAN, Bluetooth, Infra-red and UPnP connectivity.
Better still is the form factor. It’s the same twisty form-factor already used on the N92, but combined with the enhanced features of the N93, this is one serious phone to show off to your mates. The Nokia N93 release date is set for July 2006, costing 550 Euros.
Update: I’ve now posted a Nokia N93 review here.
