Nokia lovers are in for a treat as a not only is the new Nokia N8, its flagship feature phone, set for launch on August 25th, but we’ve also got a sneak peek of it in action.
This is important not only to get a feel for what the new phone looks like,, but also beuase the N8 id the first phone to feature Symbian^3 – a brand new upgrade to Nokia’s mobile OS, which has to go head to head with the iPhone (version 4 of which is due out sometime in July), and Android (which has just seen version 2.2 go live).
Symbian has been lagging badly in the smartphone stakes ever since the iPhone arrived back in 2007. Has Symbian^3 caught up and finally given Nokia the OS they need to compete? Let’s find out after the jump.
Altek Leo reignites the cameraphone wars
It seems like years ago that the major mobile phone manufacturers were engaged in the war of the camera phones, with each company upping the ante with bigger and better megapixels, xenon flashes, and all manner of optical zooms.
All that changed, of course, with the rise of the smartphone, when the overall user experience (not to mention touchscreens) replaced the camera as the main selling point of the mobile phone.
Now Altek has decided the time is right to reignite the war, and is about to unleash the 14 megapixel Alte Leo onto an unsuspecting world.
Yup, you read right – 14 megapixels, plus 3x optical zoom and HD video recording. And that’s not the half of it!

21+ remarkable features of Android 2.2 FroYo
Google has been getting some rave coverage this week with the launch of its new version of Android, Froyo. FroYo (short for Frozen Yoghurt) is Android 2.2, which doesn’t sound that big a difference from the current version of Android, 2.1 (aka Eclair).
But in reality, Froyo is a giant leap forward. In fact, there are so many changes in FroYo, each an improvement over Eclair, that it’ll make your Android phone seem like a completely new device.
If that’s whetted your appetite to find out more, then we’ve compiled a list of Mike new things that come with FroYo – and why Android is the mobile platform of the future.
Leaked pictures of the Motorola FLIPOUT
A new Motorola Android phone has been leaked in the form of the Motorola FLIPOUT. The new phone’s most obvious unique feature is its form factor. No staid candy bar or clamshell design for Motorola – they’ve gone bold with the FLIPOUT and developed a completely square phone that slides out to reveal a physical QWERTY keyboard.

HTC HD Mini Review – as good as its bigger brother?
The HTC HD Mini is the last of the Windows Mobile phones, and the little brother of the HTC HD2, what many people regarded as the best Windows Mobile phone of all time.
Sharing many features with its brother, the HD Mini looks nothing like your average Windows Mobile phone, as it uses the same shiny Sense User Interface that you see on most of HTC’s othe rsmartphones, including the HD2, Desire and Hero.
Indeed, at first glance, you could mistake the Mini for any of HTC’s other smartphones, and would be forgiven for wondering how it differs from its bigger brother, the HD2.
We thought that, too, so we decided to review the thing! Find out just what the Mini offers in our full HTC HD Mini review after the jump.
Nokia E72 review – the perfect business phone
I think in this Nokia E72 review I’ve discovered the reason why Nokia’s having such a poor time in the smartphone stakes at the moment. The Nokia E72 is, first and foremost, a great phone that’s perfect for business use. In fact, it’s probably the best business phone on the market today.
Importantly, though, it’s not a touchscreen smartphone, and nor does it pretend to be. And this is the E72′s great strength – Symbian, Nokia’s mobile OS, excels as a business phone OS, but sucks as a smartphopne OS. As a result, build a business phone on top of Symbian, as Nokia have done with the E72, and you’ve got a winner on your hands.

Garmin-Asus A10 pedestrian Sat-Nav phone
And now, we bring you the Garmin-Asus A10, another new Android phone, this time one focused firmly on navigation. The A10 has been optimised for pedestrian navigation and so comes preloaded with Garmin’s Navigation maps and software that’ll give you turn bu turn directions both on foot and on the road.
Better still, because the maps are preloaded, you can still see where you need to go even when you have no mobile coverage.
Phew! This might seem like Android day, but that’s just because of the amount of news coming out about Android devices at the moment. I guess that’s what you get when hundreds of different manufacturers all develop phones based on your very successful mobile OS!

Nokia N8 disappoints the fan boys
It’s heading into summer, which must mean that Nokia are about to launch their new flagship phone of the year. And they are, as it happens, with the Nokia N8, the latest Nokia N-Series phone, designed to show the world how smart and impressive Nokia phones are.
Except, like the past couple of years, it doesn’t.
Sure the N8 has the specs – 12 megapixel camera, for example, and 720p HD video recording.
But its operation, its user interface and overall user experience is years behind its competitors.
Which is worrying, as Nokia have been in this position since 2007.
Read on for more details and video of the Nokia N8.
Specs, pics and thoughts on Dell’s 4 new superphones
With so many companies making top-end smartphones, you’d think the last thing the market needed was yet another company jumping on the bandwagon.
But not Dell – they’ve seen that bandwagon, and they’ve jumped on it with both feet! Details of no less than four brand new smartphones from the company have been leaked, and I have to say, I’m mightily impressed!
The Dell smartphones are currently in concept stage and won’t be released until 2011 if current rumours are to be believed, but if the end result is as good as these concepts appear to be, the Dell might just catapult it to the top of the smartphone market.
Full details of the new Dell smartphones after the jump.
