Pantech launches the curious lighter phone
Here’s something you don’t see every day – a mobile phone modelled on a classic cigarette lighter! The Pantech DuPont phone shares the same design as the classic lighter from S.T. DuPont. For those of you oblivious to DuPont’s lighter, it’s the old metal one with the big chunky flip top.
Pantech’s new phone emulates this part of the DuPont lighter with its own flip top, which, disappointingly, doesn’t reveal a flame, but instead reveals the lens of a 3 megapixel camera. It does at least make the same “cling sound” as the DuPont lighter, although whether this is real or an electronic sample, we’re not sure.

Pantech IM-U170: use your face to control your phone
Pantech are obviously feeling a bit left out with all the iPhone chatter, and so have announced a new phone of their own.
The Pantech IM-U170 is a good looking silver phone that features rather a novel concept: a face recognition game.
Apparently, the built-in camera traces the movement of the user’s face to use for input instead of controllers.
So I guess nodding your head moves your character up and down, while shaking your head from side to side moves it left and right.
Weird! Who said Apple had then most innovative user interface on a mobile phone?!

Pictures of great looking Pantech IM-U130 phone
Pantech have announced the new Pantech IM-U130, a mobile phone with 2 megapixel camera, MP3 player, Bluetooth and 512MB of internal memory. Aside from all that, though, is the looks of this Korean mobile phone.
Silver, slim, large screen, and really sleek and clean looks all round, the Pantech I-U130 looks great. Destined only for Korea at the moment, though, with no news on its availability in other markets.

Pantech PG-3600V boasts world’s most tenuous world’s first
Pantech have released the new Pantech PG-3600V, which it describes as a “touch wheel music phone.”
Apparently, the “revolutionary” touch wheel enables easy navigation by allowing users to sweep the wheel key with their fingers (you know, just like an Apple iPod – now that is revolutionary!)

Pantech PG-6200 Fingerprint phone with ‘Urban Cool’
Pantech have announced the Pantech PG-6200, a mobile phone pitched at the business executive, yet descibed as containing a “sense of urban cool.” Not sure how many business execs look for urban cool in a phone, but Pantech clearly feels they should!
The PG-6200 has biometric features built-in. Specifically, the PG-6200 supports fingerprint recognition to access lock-in keys and memory dials. I can see why business users would find this appealing.

Pantech PG-2800 finger-writing recognition phone
Pantech are demonstrating their new Pantech PG-2800 ‘finger-writing recognition phone’ at the SVIAZ Expo Comm trade fair in Russia this week. The PG-2800 apparently recognizes and processes the user’s writing of text messages. “Consumers can either push individual keys or write letters with their fingers on the keypad when looking up words in the electronic dictionary or sending text messages,” says the press release. Make of this what you will!
CTIA 2006: Pantech launches its Hero for Helios
Pantech has announced the launch of its new Pantech Hero mobile phone for new US MVNO Helios. The Pantech Hero’s features are reasonably good, but nothing close to some of the features of Pantech phones sold in Korea.
Helios is a new MVNO formed by US ISP EarthLink inc. and Korean telecoms firm SK Telecom. The aim, according to a recent Wired article, was to create a new MVNO in the US that would provide cutting edge phones with features comparable to the latest Korean technological monsters. However, the specs of the Hero are only average at best.
