First pics of Samsung Bada – can it challenge iPhone and Android?
Samsung announced the Samsung Bada platform last week, a bold move designed to move Samsung phones firmly into the smartphone space. Bada is a whole new mobile technology from Samsung that takes on the iPhone and Android in a head to head battle.
Bada is a mobile operating system designed for smartphones, with support for everything you’d expect from an iPhone-equivalent device: GPS, Web browsing, touchscreen support, and all sorts of sensors, including tilt, GPS, proximity, and even weather!
Better still is Samsung’s strategy – virtually all of their new phones from 2010 onwards will feature Bada, meaning all of Samsung’s range of phones will be smartphones. As Samsung say, Bada will be the basis for a “smartphone for everyone”
Just one problem though – despite a lengthy presentation, Samsung didn’t actually show a Bada phone in action!
Fortunately, we can now put this to rights with these new pics of the Bada interface that have just been unearthed.

Five must-have features of a Web browsing smartphone
Browsing the Web on your mobile phone has traditionally been a really bad user experience. Useless keyboard entry, screens that are too small, slow and expensive data rates, and poor content have all made the mobile Web so difficult to use as to be almost useless for all practical purposes except cheating in the pub quiz.
Recently, though, all this has started to change, as a new wave of advanced smartphones have combined with super-fast network technology and forward-thinking mobile operators, which has finally made the mobile Web a reality.
But what do you need to look for in a mobile phone handset to browse the Web effectively?…
Nokia E90 available end of July

The Nokia E90 Communicator that I’ve got my eye on should apparently be in the shops (well, Nokia shops anyway) by the end of July. I know this, because I asked the guy at my local Nokia shop, and that’s what he said!
He also said they will definitely have some in stock for demo, so unlike with Carphone Warehouse, I can actually try before I buy, which I see as slightly important, given that the phone costs £635! Nokia are selling it directly on a Vodafone tarrif, but they’ll also sell it unlocked and SIM-free if that’s your preference.
Buying a smartphone – but not from Carphone Warehouse

The saga of my hunt for a smartphone begins. I went into my local Carphone Warehouse today.
“Do you sell the Nokia E90 Communicator?” I asked.
“The what?” was the reply.
“The Nokia E90 Communicator.”
“E90 what? What’s a communicator?”
“It’s a Nokia smarpthone.”
“Never heard of it!”…
Great start! Unfortunately, it gets worse…
Which smartphone should you buy?
Smartphones have become increasingly useful, so much so that I’m after for myself, and so I’ve been doing a bit of research into the market. What I’ve noticed, though, is that despite knowing exactly what I want from a smartphone, there aren’t actually that many that give me what I’m after.
The following smartphone article, then, is a brief discussion of what I’m after, and then one or two rants on why the smartphone market isn’t serving us users as well as it should! Oh, and I’ll also be talking about the two possible contenders that might, just might, give me exactly what I need.
Samsung move into VoIP with the Samsung EW-700 WiFi smartphone
Samsung, the world’s third largest mobile phone manufacturer, have announced the Samsung EW-700, a mobile phone that’s not.
More specifically, the EW-700 features everything most mobile phones do, except the ability to connect to mobile phone networks. Instead, the EW-700 harnesses WiFi to offer full VoIP connectivity whenever you’re near a WiFi hotspot, but omits the seemingly essential GSM/3G connectivity normally expected of a mobile phone.

Pictures of new Orange Smartphones
Orange has some tasty looking smartphones that they’re about to release.
Orange have traditionally rebadged HTC’s smartphones in the past, and that trend continues with the Orange SPV-C100 being a rebadged HTC Oxygen; the Orange SPV-F600 being a rebadged HTC STR TRK; the SPV-C700 being a HTC Breeze; and the SPV-M3100 being a HTC Hermes.
Orange will also be selling Samsung’s Blackberry-killer, the Samsung i320.
