LG Viewty LG-KU990 camera phone LG have announced the LG Viewty, otherwise known as the LG-KU990. The Viewty name might make you cringe, but the features certainly won't: 5.1 megapixel camera, anti-shake technology and video recording at an incredible 120fps video. Better still, you can upload your videos directly to YouTube with just a single button push. More details of the LG Viewty camera phone after the jump. The LG Viewty is a top-end camera phone, designed to take on Sony Ericsson's best. As well as 5.1 meapixels, the Viewty boasts auto-focus, a manual focus option, an image stabilizer and an ISO 800 for indoor or night shooting. It also comes with a 3.0-inch touch screen and Mobile XDâ„¢ engine, which provides a wider and more vivid display while a jog wheel on the back maximizes usability. An attached stylus allows users to digitally write on photos and edit their own files. The LG Viewty marks a departure for LG from its recent focus on designer phones. Models such as the LG Chocolate, LG Shine and LG Prada were extremely well designed, looked great and sold by the bucket load, but were pretty light on features. This was in stark contrast to Samsung, who've steadfastly remained on a strategy of feature-rich phones. That said, the design of Samsung's phones has also improved recently, particularly with its super-slim Ultra range. In fact, LG's recent strategy was similar to Motorola's (good looking phones, poor features), but with one crucial difference - LG kept releasing new and better models, whereas Motorola relied on the RAZR far to heavily, became a one-trick pony, and ended up making huge losses. Whether LG's new feature-rich direction is a reflection of a general move by consumers away from designer phones and back towards the more feature-rich ones is unclear, but it's great to see LG joining in the race of who can squeeze the most features in to their phones again. "This is a very exciting time for LG Mobile," said Dr. Skott Ahn, CEO of LG Electronics Mobile Communications Company. "The LG Black Label Series and our collaboration with PRADA have cemented our position as an innovator in design and style. With the launch of the new ‘LG Viewty’ we are now also proving our commitment to technical enhancement and look forward to taking the feature phone category by storm." This is excellent news, and should make Christmas 2007 a real battle between the 5 megapixel camera phones: the Sony Ericsson K850i CyberShot, Nokia N95, Samsung G600 and now the LG Viewty. LG are teasing us at the moment with the Viewty, as all they've revealed is the pixellage and the unbelievable frame rate of its video recording. However, the LG Viewty release date is scheduled for October 2007, with more details being released later this week.
