Nokia N92 Review
The Nokia N92 reviews are a bit thin at the moment, as the N92 hasn’t been officially launched yet. The Nokia N92 release date is set for summer 2006, so more reviews will be posted later on in the year.
What we know already, though, is that the Nokia N92 is the first Nokia mobile phone to feature mobile TV. The Nokia designers clearly know what they’re doing, though, as the form factor of the Nokia N92 is perfect for watching TV on, yet doesn’t make the phone feel unwieldy when used as, well, a phone! That said, the N92 is somewhat chunky, at 107 x 58 x 25 mm and 191g, but you have to expect some compromises given the huge amount of features crammed into it.

The Nokia N92 achieves this double life of phone and TV set through a nifty double folding form factor. In normal phone use, it acts as a standard clamshell. Twist the screen around 90 degrees, and you can take pictures with the 2 megapixel camera. Twist it round again parallel to the length of the phone, and you get to see your TV pictures in landscape mode.
Nokia N92 Connectivity
Connectivity of the Nokia N92 is hugely impressive. Tri-Band GSM, 3G, WiFi (802.11g), Bluetooth 2.0, InfraRed, and USB 2.0 are all supported, and the Nokia’s will even show up as a hard disk when you plug it into a PC, enabling supremely easy file drag n drop between devices.
Better still, the N92 supports Universal Plug n Play (UPnP), which enables you to stream music on your phone through to your HiFi system (as long as it too supports UPnP) via WiFi, as well as display images and video from your phone on your UPnP TV (you do have a UPnP TV don’t you?!).
Because the N92 uses a Symbian S60 platform, there’s a full range of applications, including mini-office software capable of reading Microsoft Work and Excel file, and PDF reader, and excellent web browser and RSS new feed reader
Nokia N92 mobile TV
Finally, the Nokia N92’s mobile TV features are excellent. The 16 million pixel display is crisp and clear, there’s an Electronic Service Guide feature, Tivo-like time-slip feature (letting you rewind live TV programmes), and support for interactive TV over the mobile network.
Nokia N92 Reviews
The first Nokia N92 review is from AllAboutSymbian, who conclude that “there is no doubt the N92 is a very powerful device. Seeing it working for the first time does engender a sense of wonder. There is something undeniably cool about convergence devices and one that has TV built in definitely packs that extra wow factor. The device is well specified and feature packed. S60 3rd Edition is a real boon and offers an extra refinement of usability and functionality compared to previous versions.†They also note that mobile phone form factors are splitting, with feature-heavy phones on one side, and super-slim, but feature-poor phones on the other. You pays your money…
The GadgetCentre also love the Nokia N92, writing that “the 2.8†screen has 16 million, yes million, colours which reminds me of the awe I felt when first gazing on the PSP in action; the contrast levels and richness of colour in the 320 x 240 screen is little short of superb… what we’ve seen is incredibly impressive, if you really want to indulge in mobile TV it is well worth waiting it out for the N92.â€
More Nokia N92 reviews when it’s released. From what we can tell so far, though, the N92 looks like it’ll be a stunning mobile phone.
