All the Androids at MWC 2009
I’m sure in 20 years’ time from now, there really will be Androids roaming the vast spaces of MWC, but until then, I’ll stick with news on the mobile variety – Google Android, obviously!
Unfortunately, the only Android announcement of any note at MWC was the new HTC Magic (or the G2, as we thought it would be called) that will come exclusively to Vodafone.
So where have all the other Androids gone? We track the Android news from the major manufacturers at MWC after the jump.
MWC 2009: Videos and pictures of the HTC Touch Pro2
One of the more impressive Windows Mobile phones at MWC this year was the HTC Touch Pro2. Sporting the same enhanced TouchFLO user interface as the Touch Diamond2, the Touch Pro2 features a smaller camera (3.2 megapixels, compared to the Diamond2’s 5 megapixels), but a much better keyboard. As you can see from the pics, it features a full QWERTY keyboard that slides open and pivots.
More details and pics of the HTC Touch Pro2 after the jump.
HTC Magic: the second Android phone is unveiled
Day two at MWC 2009 has been a bit quieter. Perhaps the biggest news (and the least unexpected) has been the launch of the HTC Magic, aka the Android G2. As we reported yesterday, the HTC Magic will be available exclusively on Vodafone, and will probably not be going to the US anytime soon, leaving some to wonder if T-Mobile have their sights set on a G3?
The Magic, meanwhile, has been garnering warm praise from bloggers, with Gizmodo describing it as the closest competitor to the iPhone yet.

Nokia anounces the 8 megapixel Nokia N86 – in Singapore!
Nokia was heavily rumoured to be announcing the 8 megapixel Nokia N86 at MWC 2009. However, in what can only be described as a PR car-crash, they didn’t; instead, they banged on about two comptent but boring messaging phones (the E75 and E55) and two even more boring mid-range phones (the 6710 and 6720).
And that was it – while Samsung was showing off its 8 megapixel Omnia HD that can shoot at 720p HD; while LG was flashing its 8 megapixel Arena, with 120 frames per second video recording and superb new 3D user interface; and while Sony Ericsson were showing off their new 12 megapixel camera phone, Nokia simply left them all to it and watched as the world’s attention went elsewhere.
Seems somebody forgot to tell the assembled marketeers at MWC 2009 about the Nokia N86, a new 8 megapixel camera phone from Nokia that the company itself accidentally leaked via a Carl Zeiss press pack! It gbest worse though…
Breaking news from the floor of MWC 2009

The news coming out of MWC 2009 at the moment is nuts – so just imagine what it’s like being there?!
Fortunately, our friends at Clove Technologies are there as we speak, and they’ve given us a brief taste of the devices they’ve seen, and the announcements that will be made on Tuesday…
MWC 2009: Video of Windows Mobile 6.5 in all its ugly glory
There’s a lot of news with Windows Mobile today – indeed, the OS was the most talked about at the show so far (although it is still only the first day).
The reason for this was that Microsoft was showing off its brand new update to Windows Mobile, Windows Mobile 6.5. Many bloggers have raved about it across the Web, but having seen videos of it, it doesn’t come close to some of the new Symbian-powered UIs we’ve seen so far today from the likes of LG and Nokia.
As for iPhone, Android and even the Palm Pre – fugeddaboutit!
There was also a plethora of new Windows Mobile phones on show from the likes of HTC and Toshiba, but I’ll talk about those some more on Tuesday, as I’m getting blisters from blogging!
More details and that video of Windows Mobile 6.5 after the jump.
MWC 2009: Videos and pictures of the Nokia E75 and E55 Messaging Phones
Nokia have been showing off their Nokia E75 and E55 messaging phones at MWC 2009 this morning. Both phones are business phones that have been designed to take on the Blackberry in the Enterprise market.
Google G2 to be launched on Vodafone tomorrow
Google is rumoured to be announcing the new G2 Android phone tomorrow at MWC 2009 – except, it won’t be called the G2, it’ll be called the HTC Magic instead.
HTC, if you remember, are the company who make the T-Mobile G1, and the Magic was originally intended to be the T-Mobile G2. However, the Magic will be available on Vodafone, which might imply that T-Mobile has passed over the chance to get it exclusively for themselves perhaps waiting instead for a G3?
In any case, it would explain why the current G1 on T-Mobile has seen a recent price drop.
MWC 2009: Official details, photos and spec of the Sony Ericsson W995
If the Sony Ericsson W995 has grabbed your attention, you’ll be screaming to see the complete specification and official details of this great new multimedia phone. Well you’re in luck, as we’ve got them here!
As you can see (after the jump), the W995 is a melding of the Walkman and CyberShot brands,as it features full Walkman music-playing features and software, as well as an 8 megapixel camera.
Read on after the jump for the official details of the Sony Ericsson W995.
MWC 2009: First pictures of the Sony Ericsson W995 Walkman CyberShot phone
Sony Ericsson has drawn first blood at MWC 2009 with the announcement of the Sony Ericsson W995. This is a monster of a multimedia phone that combines the best of both the Sony Ericsson CyebrShot and Walkman range.
It’s actually a Walkman phone, in the sense that it features the legendary Walkman branding and Walkman software (not to mention the superb Walkman sound quality), but rather than limit the W995 just to music capabilities, Sony Ericsson has decided to throw everything it’s got at the phone, and so the feature list is huge!
