Windows Phone 7.5 and 8 appear on the horizon
If you were wondering what Microsoft would name the follow ups to Windows Phone 7, wonder no more. Apparently, there will be a major update to Microsoft’s new mobile OS called Windows Phone 7.5 (and currently codenamed Mango). This update is expected to bring Silverlight and HTML5, along witha few other features such as proper copy and paste.
Beyond that lies Windows Phone 8, which is codenamed Apollo, and which is currently scheduled for a late 2012 launch.
No news yet on whether these updates will be coming to existing Windows Phone 7 devices or whether you’ll need a whole new Windows Phone to make use of them. We’ll keep you posted when we know more (which should be in February around the time of MWC2012).
